♨ : Describe your muse’s relationship to “manners.” What do they think “good manners” looks like?

“I’m generally not particularly likely to get worked up about, say, whether or not someone uses a salad fork at just the right moment, if that’s what you mean. Life’s far, far, too short, don’t you think?”

“I will say, though, lateness is truly infuriating. Probably from years and years of rehearsals, I would imagine. No one wants to keep 20 or more performers waiting. The glaring is enough to haunt a person for years.”

☘ : Does your muse believe in luck? How about fate?

[Answering this on a meta level because there’s some cognitive dissonance and she never talks this much at a time. She also tends to humble brag or hide her light and that doesn’t work here.] 

One of Lucienne’s specific skills that she hasn’t really gotten to show off is numbers. She loves numbers, she probably could have been an economist if she wanted to (and in a less racist/classist world.) It makes her really excellent at bookkeeping, which is part of why she rose so quickly in the Matranga Outfit. She knows a cheater a mile away because she knows how to count cards, and she knows the odds the games are supposed to follow so she’s quick to spot patterns and problems. 

To that end, she views luck as something people can influence, for better or worse. She certainly made hers in many cases, but she runs a casino. If you don’t have respect for luck’s seductiveness at a bear minimum, why would you do it? 

She knows more than most that though things might shake out to standard odds by the end, the individual draw can mean everything. Luck is that draw, but fate? Fate is what you make as you decide what to do with it.

⚠ : How does your muse react to possibly dangerous situations? Do they face them head-on, or do they plan out their actions first?

“If there is time to plan, I do. It is important to know when you need to regroup, reorganize, re-think. So we plan out communication, exit strategies, prioritize the safety of those who cannot fight back. But this is all only if there is time. If there is a fight I didn’t know of ahead of time, the only thing I need to know is if I can win or if I need to go. If there’s even a chance I come out on top, I take it. We only move forward if we are willing to take the steps.”

⚡ : Did your muse have any especially powerful childhood fears? What were they? Have they grown out of them now… or are those monsters still hiding under the bed, in some sense?

“Nothing’s under my bed, darling, besides some empty champagne bottles and a random assortment of shoes. No, I was never the type to believe in bogeymen, not even as a child; in fact, I used to scare my older sister, Amandine, by hiding in our bedroom closet during the night and clawing against the door. Now she was a real scaredy cat.”
