I know this is a hot topic within the witchcraft community. People saying that “however you practice your craft is absolutely okay,” and it is! But this is something being said that people see and accept based off of morality. Your way, is okay. With that people don’t really look into the different way. There is one specific topic that is discussed and accepted but I feel is kind of blown off a little. Yes, you’re going on while reading this “well, I don’t blow it off, screw you!” Well that’s great, then you’re on the right track keeping doing what you’re doing. The way of the craft that I am referring to, is something simple to the mundane mind. It is something barely graspable by the advanced practitioner when looked at in depth. But it is something that I believe is beautiful and so strong. It is simply a way of practicing witchcraft…. With nothing but words and thought.
Yup, that’s right! Words and thought… No pentacles, no crystals, or herbs, no fancy candles and annoying lidless jars. Studying religions has shown fruitful to the discovering of this topic. In most major and not so major religions it teaches one thing through all religions. That the material things in the world are not important in the spiritual world. The first example is in a religion that for the most part as demolished the idea of witchcraft. Christianity. "And others are the ones sown among thorns. They are those who hear the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful" (Mark 4:18-19). Regardless of the acceptance of witchcraft in Christianity, we see that one thing taught in this religion is materialism. Materialism is a thing that can “choke the word” and the word becomes “unfruitful.” But what does that mean? This quote means, that when you focus on the physical side of the spiritual world, you realize, there is not one. The spiritual world is just that, spiritual.
“We should be contented in material areas, for those are bound by limitation, but not with regard to the spiritual, which can be extended limitlessly. Though it is true that a discontented person who owned the whole world might want to own a tourist center on the moon, that person's life is limited, and even the amount that can be owned is limited. It is better right from the beginning to be contented” (Dali Lama). This is an example spoken by the Dali lama, it is a beautiful quote. When we put this quote to the ideas of witchcraft. We can speak a truth that goes- We are preforming a spell. We have all the materials necessary to perform this spell, the rosemary, horehound, sage, citrine, jasper, red candles, black candles, etc. We are content with that. But the thing is, if we have all this, we don’t really have everything that can be used to perform this spell to the fullest potential. There are a thousand different other materials to be used in this spell to increase the potency, and with that being said, are we preforming the spell at its fullest potential? Or are we in a sense “half assing it” or should we obtain that amount of limited abundance of material? But even then, one herb can hold protective properties and hold another property that could counteract your spell. When we simply use thought we concentrate a specific energy to a specific goal without any outside influences to add other properties.
I know this is a lot to take in and has a lot of counterpoints however when we look at the concept that everything we think manifests into the astral world it changes. So with that being said, we think about the energy that the said herb or crystal puts off, or to aid we could simply think about that herb and crystal in association to the energy, then that energy is created into the astral realm. Correct? So is the physical shell of the energy more efficient? Or is it the same thing to the advanced witch?
So we think about how words and thought correlate. We can repeat mantras to ourselves to change our course of thought. It is obvious without much proof that words and thought have a strong relationship, in order to talk, we must think, in order to persuade someone, we must talk to them, which then changes their thoughts.
In short there is an abundance of truth in all religion that states that the physical relationship between human and object is highly irrelevant. It can even be said that it is somewhat a block when we think about the limitations of said object. We have discussed the power of thought when it comes to the manifesting of energy, and I have shown you examples of the strength of word in correlation to thought and mind. The next question is- Is all this physical stuff really worth using in our craft?
This is simply an opinion, and something I have just recently stumbled upon and haven’t even implemented into my craft, I would absolutely love to hear your thoughts and your personal approaches to your craft, you can send them to me via ask and I can share them with the rest of my followers. Love and light my little witches. <3
