You have to read this epic takedown of another smear piece against Bernie
Our friend +Rugger Ducky posted the following response to an article in The San Francisco Chronicle that erroneously likened Bernie Sanders supporters to Trump's.
Reposting in it's entirety:
I read this opinion piece, and felt compelled to write a response.
I'm a 44 year old woman, a disabled vet, married lesbian, and mother to a wonderful 4 year old child. I brought her to the Bernie rally today, because I had absolutely zero qualms about any violence at all. I brought my daughter because she's almost the same age I was when my parents took me while they voted for President Carter. I remember being crazy bored, but also excited. It sparked a lifelong record of support for the Democratic Party.
I..feel you do women like myself and my wife, lifelong Democrats, feminists, educated, a huge disservice. We aren't "BernieBros", and we are very active on social media. I have a pseudonym I have used online for over 20 years, and I've been very careful to help keep fellow "Berners" to the facts, not the emotions.
I've watched with growing dismay as evidence of vote malfeasance has been occurring in the primaries. I raised one eyebrow when I saw the reports from Phoenix, Arizona from my friends. One woman I know waited 5 hours in the scorching sun with her disabled son.
When the reports came in that at least 100,000 people in Brooklyn had been stripped of their voter registrations, both eyebrows went up. As well as a little birdie wondering in my ear why that happened in Senator Sander's birthplace.
Then 54 caucus members for Sanders were denied access to the floor in Nevada, to give the voting lead to Secratary Clinton. A vote was taken 30 minutes before scheduled while caucus members were still being seated, and the state party chair refused to administer a revote.
I saw the speech by Senator Boxer, and I lost what little respect I had for her in that moment. When the DNC is failing so egregiously to play on a level field, they are handing voters to Donald Trump. How many voters whose complaints during the primary season were ignored by the DNC will vote for the Democratic candidate this November, no matter who it is?
That Senator Boxer was booed for her presence in the political party of another state, and for acting in quite the manner of a bully, says good things about those people in my book. I am also a veteran who respects the 1st Amendment rights of those people to boo or cheer as they damned well please. If there is a question at all about fair voting, it is the responsibility of the party leaders to remove any doubt. Well, I guess they did remove all doubt. Which is why the booing.
Reports of chair throwing after, well, there's always one jackass in every group, like the Nevada precinct caucus captain who said folks shouldn't vote for Bernie "Because he's a socialist Jew."
Threatening phone calls and doxxing of the state chair is unacceptable. Period. End of story.
Also unacceptable was all of the Bernie Sanders Facebook pages getting removed simultaneously. Facebook now says it was a glitch, but many users report the pages were spammed with child pornography. Also unacceptable, a PAC is spending millions to have pro-Clinton paid shills on social media. I've run across more than one, and their tactics are..vile to say the least.
During two debates, Secretary Clinton supporters created a drinking game on Twitter. "Take a drink of an alcoholic beverage every time Bernie says Iraq." As a veteran, that is cruel and callous beyond belief. They make a joke out of a needless and disastrous war that continues to cost hundreds of thousands of lives. Not to mention the lives of those lost Americans, and those wounded in body and mind. Like my old buddy "Mo-Mo" from Basic many moons ago. Burned over 80% of her body when her vehicle hit an IED. A war that they almost certainly oppose, either now or earlier.
I have always had my reasons for not voting for Secretary Clinton, including in 2008. Those reasons haven't changed. In 2008 it was supposedly because I was voting FOR the "black guy" (funny reasoning, since I've never been black) now it's because I'm a terrible feminist. Or something like that.
No, I'm voting proudly for Bernie Sanders in the California primary because he has always stood in exactly the same political spot for many decades. And it's exactly the things I believe in as well. Sure, Bernie and HRC voted the same way 93% of the time. But it's that seemingly small 7% of votes that are exactly what I believe in.
Please stop using terms like BernieBros. Please stop and think about how many of us you're alienating. My wife and I both are considering changing our lifelong registrations as Democrats because of the uneven playing field. Well, and quite a bit because of Debbie Wasserman Schultz. I've been appalled at her protection of the predatory lenders, and the absolutely abhorrent bill she submitted. That is identical to prior GOP ones. That she's been obviously biased towards Secretary Clinton was clear when Tulsi Gabbard resigned.
Hit pieces do a disservice to the whole party.
Oh, and my daughter had a moderately good time, considering the heat and boredom. She will forget most of the boredom, and she will remember that her mommy included her in the political process.
