i love a good cover, especially when an artist puts their own twist on it.
l.a.-based dj, producer, and soul-pop artist zak waters has unveiled his latest track – an ever-so-smooth rendition of ginuwine’s “pony.” the track will be included on zak’s forthcoming ep entitled now // later, realeased june 17th faux records, and distributed by wiz khalifa’s own rostrum records. zak waters is fresh off the heels of his national tour with betty who and cardiknox, which wrapped up in april.
over the past year, zak waters not only put out his debut ep lip service, but also spent december playing a month-long residency at the satellite in los angeles followed by a sold out headlining show – not to mention supporting one of the nation’s most rapidly rising pop artists in betty who. following the release of the new ep now // later, waters will head east in august for summer sonic festival – japan’s biggest summer festival of the year.
in an interview with fuse, zak waters discussed his reasoning behind covering ginuwine’s “pony” – “it’s a timeless song that people kind of forget about until it comes on and everyone always reacts the same way. they mean mug and start grinding.”
fans can check out “pony” here, and can also pre-order now // later here. look out for zak to hit the road this fall to promote his new ep. for more information on zak waters, visit www.zakwatersmusic.com.
