I'm a One Piece fan but yeah that's a fair call. Without good reason to engage with it - someone saying 'it's good' isn't one - you shouldn't have to force yourself through one arc, let alone the whole thing. Yes, I would like more people to be into it and enjoy it, but it's just not a series that's going to appeal to everyone despite all that I like about it. And, personally, I think Spongebob's got a bit better ratio of quality content to 'stuff we all wish never happened' than One Piece.
Oh gosh you must be here from the previous ask about how people complain that SB has been running for so long.
I was mostly joking on that post but I was worried if others might take it seriously and was considering deleting it- anyways I'm getting off topic.
I get what you mean though! I have a friend who likes one piece and it really makes her happy, it makes a bunch of other people so happy and its been running so long. Spongebob is also like that. I really see no harm with it lasting so long either. That was my point. If you really like a series, and a lot of other people do too then it feels natural it would last so long. At least in the creators intent.
A lot of people cite Hillenburg leaving the show/wanting to end it after the 1st movie as proof the show should have ended long ago. Mostly their anger towards the later stuff. While I agree Nick shouldn't have imposed on what he wanted. The series wouldn't have made as much of a lasting impact as it did.
Not to mention Hillenburg changed his mind often. He didn't want to do the first movie initially. And also he was still involved with the series as executive producer after the 1st movie. He didn't entirely leave. He was also involved with other SB projects (the comics) between that time. Before he worked on the 2nd movie and enjoyed it enough to continue working on the show post 2nd movie era.
It wouldn't have been possible without the series going on. And it lasting for longer allowed more people to discover it and enjoy it. If it ended after the 1st movie, it would have rerun for a few years and ultimately be a faded memory for me.
And while all the not so great episodes from that post primary movie era happened. They don't really ruin the series for me. Like you mentioned, when something lasts for so long, theres bound to be some duds here and there. Of you genuinely enjoy the series, it wouldn't matter much. But some people don't need to push through those bad episodes and content.
I feel like I went on some long talk rn and hopefully this isn't all a word jumble mess. I do appreciate your comment tho!
