River breathed in the scent of the ocean air as she settled down at the back of the van, pulling her knees up to her chest. Her bright eyes traipsed over the ocean, visible in its entirety through the open double doors. Mentally she noted the different shades of the water and the height of the waves. Unsurprisingly, her head was clear but constantly whirring at the same time. But what did she have to worry about when she was this close to the ocean? Living her dream in a simple but comfortable converted van with nothing but the beauty and power of nature around her. She breathed in deeply as she unfolded her journey in her lap, looking at the creeping orange of the sky as dusk approached. Sketches and notes littered every dog eared page. Equations merged with small doodles as River tried to pour her mind onto the pages. As she began to mumble to herself she pulled her pen from her messy pun and pressed it to the paper, trying to keep up with each thought until her wrist ached. Movement out of the corner of her eye made her lower the journal. The very sight of Sunny carrying her board across the expanse of sand made River’s smile grow. With the imprint of the ocean against her back and the impenetrable expanse of burning sky above, she was just simply breathtaking, a complete addition to River’s adoration. Grabbing a towel from the step she slipped out of the back of the van and wandered away from the tarmac and began down the dune atop which the van was perched. When she was a few metres away, she beamed and lifted her hand to her head. A simple greeting that she gave without thinking now. “The surf looked good.” She announced as she lifted her arms and wrapped the towel around her girlfriend’s neck. “And you did too.” @nxfxlibata
