World of Dance Qualifiers 1: Rankings!
Hey everyone. And we’re back! I told you all last night that I would do a ranking and well, here it is. Sorry it’s a bit late. I was trying to figure out if I was going to do a ranking post. I don’t wanna seem like I’m copying PureWorldofDance. But then I thought, “Eff it.” We’re all trying to figure how to go about doing this show, so I’m gonna do a ranking. I won’t be splitting them up into their divisions though. I’m gonna go in order of who I liked most to least. I’ll probably get more into splitting them up and rank them based on how far I think they’ll go in stage 2. Anyway, let’s get started.
1. Kinjaz- I’ve been a fan of Kinjaz for quite a few years now. I love their style of dance and how unique it is. The intricacy of their choreography always draws me in. So it was no shock to me to see the type of number that they did. That’s them. I think a lot of people are so used to flashy choreography, that this can go underappreciated but I personally enjoyed them the best last night. And I hope that they go far. I know they have the flashy tricks too. So it’s nice to know that they have things up their sleeves to really make a statement with everyone.
2. D’Angelo and Amanda- I didn’t recognize their names at first. But when I did some digging and looking around on twitter, I realized that they were on AGT a few seasons ago. These two are incredibly talented. I love that they did a little medley of a bunch of styles. Amanda has really amazing extensions and her flexibility is beyond imaginable. I would agree with Derek that she is a little stiff in her hips. But I think with some coaching, I think she’ll be able to nail it. These two definitely have what it takes to go all the way.
3. Diana Pombo- As you all know, I don’t care for contemporary. In fact, it is probably my least favorite style of dance. This is the only reason why she is this low. However, I really enjoyed this piece. Diana danced it beautifully. I love the quirky ways that she showed off her flexibility. It really made her memorable and set her apart. It was amazing.
4. Super Cr3w- I thought this was super dope. Everything about it was right. And I love seeing how much they want to win (everyone wants to win it of course). It added to the performance without coming off as desperate. Unfortunately for them, I enjoyed Kinjaz a little more because I prefer their style of dance. But, I can’t say this was bad. It was still really good.
5. Les Twins- I liked this dance. Don’t get me wrong. They were great. And they’ll probably make it to the finals if last night was any indicator as to how the judges will respond to them all season. I do have my own issues with them though. For me, they’re just so much and I can only take them in small doses. One or two dances is cool as long as they go away for awhile afterward. But I had to watch them all of the time dancing next to Beyonce. And it got exhausting after maybe performance #5 during the first year that they worked with her. Again, I thought the routine was great and they danced it flawlessly. They just have never been my cup of tea.
6. Keone and Mari- So I guess these two have stans? Weird. One of them commented on my post last night, shocked that I have never heard of these two a day in my life. And I’m sorry, I just have never heard of them. Not my fault. I will say that I thought this routine was really adorable. They danced it well, it was interesting and I loved seeing their marriage connection. But at the end of the day, it was only cute to me.I didn’t feel it was some earth shattering and ground breaking piece of dance. I still thought they were great and there’s a reason why they have gone viral. It was just the one act of the six that made it through that I was only sort of amazed by. Still amazing though.
7. NXT LVL (Eliminated)- I got some very nice peeps to explain to me what clogging is, and I want to say thank you. I will be reblogging/posting the submission so that everyone can see the difference. I’m still not all that clear on the difference is between that and tapping in terms of look to the untrained eye. But it seems like the technique is much different. The type of shoe worn is different too. Or at least it should be. Anyway, back to NXT LVL. I thought this was good. But I agreed with the judges. I just don’t think they would have been able to keep up with the either Super Cr3w or Kinjaz in the long run. Clogging seems like it can be a tad repetitive and that there’s only so much that you can do with it. It’s unfortunate, but it happens.
So that’s it. This is so much nicer than blogging for DWTS. I don’t feel rage building up inside of me right now. It’s nice to be able to sit back, enjoy a show and then write about what you liked and what you didn’t like strictly from what the contestants bring to the stage. It’s so refreshing. Anyway, let me know what you all thought and I will be back next week!
