What ran through his mind at that very moment, were things that had nothing there to do. His shift had been too long, it had taken too long to get things done and it caused him trouble. He stood behind glass doors, the only thing shielding him from the darkness outside. He was terrified to say the least, not because darkness in general was scary, but after dusk everything became so much more difficult. Sure there were street lamps littering the pavements and whatnot, but even s he felt a little insecure. His fingers curled tightly around the bag straps attached to his backpack, swallowing thickly he then stepped outside. Without success, his hazel hues tried to get used to the enveloping dimmed night, the chilled air biting into his skin and making him shudder for a sliver of a second. He pulled his jacket tighter around himself, lowering his gaze for a moment, barely able to see his shoes properly even though they were white.
He sighed and forced himself to begin to move, walking forward with slow steps. The ares between every lamp were small and they threw enough light for him to be able to see far at least two or three meters before there were two meters of darkness, followed by another three of light and so on. He'd make it, he told himself he would. He knew the way after all. He knew it well, like the back of his hand. It'll be fine Baek. He told himself. You'll be fine. He nodded to himself, trying to stay positive as he approached his first dark spot. It was uncomfortable to say the least, becoming completely blind every three meters but as long as he walked straight ahead he'd be fine. Right? He hoped so, desperately.
But shadows can lure you and somewhere along the way he managed to make a wrong turn and soon he found himself at a place he didn't recognize. His eyes wavered from side to side, desperately trying to find something that could tell him where he had gone, even though he knew he wouldn't be able to see a thing until daylight. Now, he could actually admit to being scared. He fought so immensely to be independent and take care of himself but he had been defeated by something as simple as nighttime. It made hi frustrated and he ended up aiming a few kicks at the nearest tile wall. He just wanted to go home, what was so goddamned difficult about going home? What was so difficult with not straying off of a set path? He lowered his head, hands rubbing at his eyes as he tried to collect himself. This had never happened before and of course it made him panic more than a little. He was always so peculiar about making it out of the store before nightfall, or make sure one of his colleagues would give him a ride home, which they always gladly offered.
Today had been different, and none of the people he usually worked with had been present, leaving him in this sour mess. He had no idea what he was supposed to do? Call a cab? But how could he do that when he didn't know where he was? He sighed angrily, strutting forward at a slow pace, sooner or later there was bound to be someone he could ask, or a store which he recognized. Something that could tell him where he had gone. Lost in thoughts like this, he was barely noticing where he was heading, walking into another blind spot of darkness and soon colliding with something warm. It made him flinch, eyes wide as he stumbled backwards. It was obviously another person, but since he still couldn't see, thus unable to judge wether they were angry or not, he moved back into the safety of the light about half a meter behind him.
He was afraid, hands shaking as he laces them together behind his back, ready to apologize though no words want to leave his lips, every syllable getting stuck in his throat and the only thing he managed to let out was some sort of silent, lame wheezing.
Good job Baekhyun, good job.
