i won't give up

if i may be sappy for a moment... 2024 has become one of the best years of my life completely unexpectedly, and i owe so much of that to dan and phil. i'm not the type of person who makes spontaneous decisions even if i know they would make me happy or improve my life, but something made me impulsively buy a ticket to tit and that decision was life changing. it opened up a whole world of possibilities for me; if i can drop everything and travel hours by myself via train to go see a fun show, what else can i do with my life? why have i spent so many years trapped in a fog of apathy, afraid of everything that could bring me joy? and on that note, why have i been so embarrassed by the things that make me happy?

sometimes i feel like my teenage years and early 20s were completely stolen by mental illness, but being able to earnestly enjoy something as silly as two gay british youtubers from my childhood has brought me back so much of the carefree joy from that time that i thought i'd never get to feel again. and that's not even mentioning the wonderful people i've either become friends with or gotten closer with because of dan and phil. i'm so thankful for this community because it allowed me to discover parts of myself i thought were long dead. thank you to every single one of you who have made my 2024 so memorable 🧡

anyway... in honor of embracing the cringe, i decided to close the year out with a sappy gif set inspired by those old school arial font lyric edits of the 2010s!

I've had such a fun year being a part of the phandom and wanted to make a compilation of my favorite moments of 2024 to celebrate the end of this wild year! <3

5. October 19th and the two weeks following it

These two weeks were So Much. October 19th was amazing, of course. I loved seeing everyone's gorgeous gifs, edits, and artwork while we waited anxiously for Dan and Phil to show signs of life (and they delivered by actually making the silly "no, but seriously imagine it" video).

And then they gave us the best two weeks ever? We got Spooky Week, and the Halloween mug cakes video, and them dressing up as Aziraphale and Crowley for Halloween! We got the west coast US tour photodump! Phil posted a picture of himself reflected in Dan's PVC-covered ass?? And to top it all off, a video of Phil set to 'Married Life' from Up?!

Those few weeks were legitimately some of the most memorable times I've ever had in phandom :')

4. The birthday livestreams

I'm so happy I was able to attend both birthday streams live because they were so much fun. Phil's was unhinged chaotic energy with all of the technical glitches, and Dan's livestream was just plain unhinged. We got so many good moments from these livestreams: eyebrow slits, the annual cake and Dan photos reveals, appearances by Sister Daniel and Father Philip, and Dan getting his Dune popcorn bucket!! Also, the "imagine that on top of you" kakuna moment lives rent free in my brain to this day. (Most importantly, they raised so much money for charity!)

3. Phlonde

What can I say? Phlonde Phil completely changed the timeline. (inserting a bonus photo of "yeehaw odyssey" Phil here because this look also changed me as a person)

2. Their couple's holiday photodump?!

Something in my brain broke the day they posted these photos. Like, what the fuck, they're actually just posting fully couple-y pictures like this now?! They posted these during the middle of my workday, and I remember just staring at them (and getting absolutely nothing done for the rest of the day).

1. Getting to see DnP live!

Seeing Dan and Phil live at TIT was legitimately one of the best things I did all year. Standing in the lobby before the preshow to swap photocards and bracelets, and just getting to chat with other phannies in real life was so much fun.

And of course, seeing Dan and Phil in person! They walked through the lobby before the preshow literally five feet away from where I was standing, and I'll always remember that stunned excitement I felt seeing them right up close for the first time. Like, they're actually real (and very tall!) :')

The preshow was so much fun (I’m somewhere in that picture above <3), and TIT itself was incredible. It was just one of the best nights of my life. <3

hi i don't normally like to do giant appreciation posts because i'm always scared i'll accidentally leave someone out. but it's the end of the year and i appreciate a lot of people so i'll make an exception. this is all off the top of my head so there is probably a heavy recency bias and if you're not included it's not because i don't appreciate you but probably because i can't think of anything specific to thank you for :( i appreciate all of you this year has been so fun and you're all so funny and have been so kind to me and i hope we can have lots of fun together next year too. anyways. it's still december 31st here so i did NOT miss the new year's eve meetup thank you very much.

@manchestereyes thank you for seeing tit with me and returning to phanfic writing this year. the world is truly better for it

@bewareofthenewphannie for helping me with the photosensitivity document for tit even though i got a migraine anyway, that part was probably inevitable

@eveningsausage for encouraging me to recreate the october 19th selfie with my best friend (even though there was an event near the chicago apple store and there were ten million people in there so we got scared and did not do it) (the event was very loud and there were a lot of lights we were very brave about it) and also betaing the one fic i wrote this year that actually had a beta. also haircut advice which i have yet to apply in practice

@jonsaremembers because i am eating a quesadilla recipe that she sent me right now (god please help me I need that cookbook nowhere near as badly as dan and phil but I do need it) (i am eating a quesadilla made with the recipe. i did not print out the actual recipe and eat the recipe)

@thighguys for leaving like ten comments on my fics in one night, which kept me fed for most of the year

@dnpbeats for writing a hoodie bow incident explainer that i linked to in a fic. i can tell when people read my fic when they like my reblog of that post and now i guess you can too

@toomanystairs for the bracelet at tit and the offer of a bracelet at mcr next year! i'm really excited :)

@wdapteo for my header! and not my icon anymore because i changed that but they did also make me an icon!

@notsosaucystuff for being the first person i ever did matching icons with (and only person and also we are still matching) (i literally went to go check because i was like omg it would be so awkward if i said we were matching but they changed their pfp like yesterday)

@catboydan for hanging out with me look idk including this on an appreciation list kind of makes it sound like hanging out with me was just a favor and it wasn't but it was a lot of fun and i can't think of a different way to word it lmao

@shiwisins because i reread decaf coffee again today and also for a lot of their other fics but decaf coffee is the one i reread today so it's the one i am most appreciative of

@lessthanpog for also having migraines and commiserating about them, this has been a very bad year for my health (rip) and i needed all of the comisery i could get

honestly so many fic writers i have read so much good fic this year. and so many other people like even if my memory worked well it would be too many to feasibly list before midnight. if you commented on any of my fics i love you. if you left kudos i love you. if you reblogged my jokes and said they were funny i love you. if you did lots of other things i probably love you. etc.

My favorite moment of 2024 was of course meeting both my heroes after watching them for nearly ten years, it was an incredible moment I will cherish forever. I finally got to them both in person just how much they both meant to me and that their videos helped me through the dark days and that they were there for me even on my good days. I met some amazing friends also that I hope to keep in touch for many years.

A small contribution to NY25phandommeetup from me to say hi and thank you to all of you.

I started this blog in Oct after realising I was on here every day since Dan's b'day stream liking ALL the posts. I've had my other (now archive) blog since 2013ish and used to watch and like dnp content back then but the fandom seemed a bit intense (sorry!) My lurking this year showed a group of kind, funny, talented and supportive people and decided to join in.

Thank you to those that have followed me back - I follow & like from dorksandadorations- and I'd love to get to know more phannies in 2025 with some asks and interactions as I haven't had any yet. Attending London 25th Jan.

I am....30s (millenial AF like dnp), Londoner, Work in HR and am a qualfied career coach (and love helping in this area), full-time Dannie (in that I relate to him so much but also love Phil Lester with my whole being), labrador mum and general lover of joy and kindness. I also used to live & work in Paris & have a literature degree and want to write so would love to find a beta buddy as a 2025 goal.
