I was fortunate to read about Henry’s work and to stumble upon an exhibit at Foley Gallery just down from my store on Orchard Street last year. I'm still haunted by the bare yet brilliant, vital and resonant photographs of these well loved people's artifacts. A silk rose from Charlie Chaplin's lapel, James Dean's room key at the Iroquois Hotel, these objects cum talismans are imbued with meaning in a way that is really quite tangible. The stillness in the images becomes quietly electric when you know by whom these possessions were held, used, word or kept– like in the perfectly kingly image of Elvis Presley's Gold Beretta or Marylin’s custom, white and numbered Goyard luggage. These austere photos honor the artifacts and let a little of their stolen magic linger on.

With a little help from my friend 777Crish I was motivated to go out and see what the new season of NYC commercial gallery exhibitions were all about. All the press releases and titles for the shows lent themselves to a story of lost or forgotten world we had no idea existed, it seemed like the idea of the artists comeback was in the air here too. Thank God a lot of the art i saw was on point as they say in these parts of the world.
