Searching for a Location The easiest way to begin using NYCityMap is by finding a user defined location. This can be easily accomplished in a single search field by typing a given location in one of a variety of different location types. The search field in NYCityMap supports the following formats: Address, Place of Interest, Borough Block Lot (BBL), Intersection, Community District, City Council District, ZIP Code, Street between Intersections (blockface), Coordinates, Building Identification Number (BIN) and Neighborhood Name. Simply type in the specific location you are looking for, click Search and NYCityMap will attempt to match that with the information on the map.
The benefit to using the single search field is that you can input as much information about a location that you know. For example, if you know the address and zip code, eg. 350 Fifth Avenue, 10001, you can enter that. If you do not know the zip code, you can enter just the address portion, eg. 350 Fifth Avenue, and NYCityMap will attempt to find an appropriate match. Just click on the result that corresponds to the initial search and the map will be redrawn at that location.
Advanced Search
As an alternative to using the single search field, you can search for a specific location by using the “Advanced Search” module to the right of the map. Click “Advanced Search” to open the module. You can search by address, place of interest, borough block lot, intersection, Community District, City Council District, or ZIP code.
If you wish to do additional searches without erasing the results of previous ones, you can click the “>>” icon below the search fields to reveal the “Append Search to Map” check-box. Check off this box before doing a search and the results of that search will be shown on the map in addition to any searches you’ve done previously.
