Y'know, I think he's almost okay with it. There's many things he understands and doesn't, and one of the things in between those lines is you!

I think he's actually the most fascinated by your behavior while the other two are pretty aloof about it. The first time he notices your odd behavior, I think he actually fell in love just a little harder.

Jack doesn't really like normal people? I guess that's the right word. He's fascinated by weird things and you have a bunch of weird qualities. Your plants always grow faster and brighter, and victims say your area feels like a whole new dimension.

He knows something about you isn't human or normal, and that lures him in deeper. Knows the Slender Man hates you interfering with his work, but like, you're helpful so he allows it under the radar.

The two of you talk a lot about it. You still won't outright tell him but he has theories and the two of you call those conversations, the playful debates, date night.

Wonders why you're so magnetic and it makes him orbit in the best way. Makes him want to stay around you even longer - figure you out and all of that good stuff.

Nyein

I'm not even sure Nyein even notices at first? This isn't because Nyein is smooth brained, but rather, when they're hungry for flesh, their mind is pretty one track.

Theo fell off the couch with a groan. He ran his hands through his hair as he sought out Wallace to try and get a handle on Nyien. However, Wallace opened three doors in the hall, frustrated that they were missing most of their quilts and comforters. “Nyien!” Wallace grumbled before noticing Theo’s approach. “This is getting out of hand.”

“Yeah, no shit. We’re about to be out of a couch.”

“And any bedding,” Wallace confirmed.

He rubbed his face in his palms before turning toward the room Nyein claimed. Opening the door was an unexpected struggle. It wouldn’t budge, but the lock wasn’t in place. Finally, with the weight of both him and Theo, the door flew open. And there were all of the pillows and quilts and sheets from across the cabin. All bundled from wall to wall on the floor and in the middle of it all, Nyein.

Theo’s cheeks burned as he found out why Nyien took the couch pillows. He got up with his hands in the air then turned away. “Nope, no, yeah, the cat can keep the damn pillows for all I care.”

Wallace shook his head and stood up. “Nyein.”

The independent paused with a whine then looked up at their leader. Wallace simply sighed, rubbing his neck as he looked around the room. He’d forgotten their yearly heat. He grimaced at the thought of the one place that would deal with this quickly. “Do you want to go see Irin?” 

Nyien perked up at that, nodding intensely. “But, you can’t bring her back here.” Deflating, they huffed but agreed. A portal opened, and Nyein jumped through first. Wallace followed after, closing the portal behind him. He closed his eyes as his senses were bombarded by lights and music. He groaned but followed after Nyien as they rushed over to the bar where Irin currently ran drinks.

She paused what she was doing when she noticed the two of them and smiled. “Just’a moment you two! Let me finish these up!” She sent out the last round of drinks and stepped away from the bar, wiping her hands on the apron she wore. The group leader had followed her out after they were caught in one of the backrooms. She smashed a window, and without hesitation, he chased her. It was a middle to late Antebellum period ranch house, mostly likely built by the middle class. For a ranch house, it seemed spaciously tall. If they’d managed to clear the previous occupants without them setting it ablaze, Wallace would’ve asked his boss if it could become a safe house for passing proxies, or a new home for his team. He took in a deep breath and tried to avoid how choking the black smoke was as it darkened the sparse light of the moon that came through the thick rain clouds. He whistled again. 

A few moments later, another clipped bird whistle came back. Seemed just as tired as he was. He whistled once more, and he was met again with another whistle. The whistle called out again, closer this time, and he recognized it as rounding what used to be the front of the house. Wallace breathed a sigh of relief as he adjusted the dead body on his shoulder and left the line of tall trees to find the independent. 

There at the front was a milky white creature, ears flattened to the sides of his head as he crossed his arms. They were panting too, and when Wallace glanced downwards to their pawed feet, he could see why. Under his claws was one of the former proxies they’d been sent to hunt. He chuckled deeply and nodded at the cryptid.

‘You killed her?’ the independent signed with a puzzled expression, head tilted to the side in bewilderment and slight disappointment. 

“My bad,” Wallace hardly apologized as he lowered his shoulder slightly, letting the dead weight tumble haphazardly to the earth. The sight of her lifeless eyes sent the proxy under Nyein’s paws into a sobbing frenzy, his muffled screams barely able to compete with the rolling thunder. The group leader took amusement in how his burnt hands reached out to touch her, console her? Is that what he was trying to do? He kicked at the raw flesh. “Stop it,” he laughed mockingly. “So, did you have to chase him down?” He inquired as he crouched down to see the traitor closer. He swore the pools from his tears were different from the pools formed from the heavens. 

The independent shook their head. ‘No,’ he signed. ‘Well, at least not all the way. Axe Lady got him for me.’ 

Wallace’s attention piqued. “She did?” He glanced outwards towards the dark forest illuminated by the fire’s raging light. It wasn’t visible to untrained eyes, but he could easily see just how rigged the forest was. He’s almost surprised he didn’t get caught in anything on his way out. 

Nyein nodded once more before pressing down harder on the back of the former proxy’s skull. ‘They were in the area before us.’ 

The group leader scoffed slightly, more than a bit put off from the mention of other proxies in the area. Of course they were around. The Operator sent his group to play fetch, and those two to carry them the rest of the way. He ran his fingers through his dark blond hair. “Where are the other two?” 

‘Getting the other one,’ Nyein answered with no inflection in their sign, clearly tired of the situation. He hissed down at the man fallen from grace under his paws before rolling his shoulders slightly. They felt their heart rate falling to something calmer, letting the rain shower over their face before their nose twitched. Nyein grabbed at Wallace’s forearm to let him take the place that they once held before running off into the woods. 

Wallace’s boot slammed roughly into the man’s chest. “They’re much nicer than I am,” he chuckled as the man wheezed loudly from the weight and how Wallace threatened to cave his chest in. Wallace’s eyes honed in on the area Nyein had run off to before holstering his gun and crossing his arms, every now and then bouncing his weight on the former proxy’s chest. He smiled slightly upon seeing three people appearing from the woods, his proxies, and another he recognized. It's interesting to see him without his mask - can't be bothered with it like them either, can he?

“You guys really made a mess of the whole thing, didn’t you?” The man trailing just beside the tall female proxy teased slightly, his lips curled into a grin. “He was planning on making it a safe house.” Despite having lost his sense of sight, he’s moving throughout the brambles and pooling earth like it’s second nature. He seemed a bit relaxed in their presence, whether it was a front or not was something they wouldn't be afforded the luxury of finding out. No one would be in the area for very long after this mess up. 

“Wasn’t our fault they became pyromaniacs,” the man on the far left sighed as he pinched his nose. Theo wasn’t wearing his pig face mask - a smart decision considering how unbearably hot it had become despite the rain pouring harder. 

“Good to see you too, Huxley,” Wallace hummed in a relatively friendly manner. 

“I’d return the sentiment but that would be a lie,” the tall man snorted. He took in a deep breath and tsked his tongue. “Where’s the other one?” He asked as he crossed his arms, barely phased by how the proxy under Wallace’s weight squirmed and pleaded. HIs nerve damaged hands were still reaching out to the dead girl. Clearly, she meant a lot to him from how he risked Wallace’s temper just to touch her. 

“Think the cat is getting him,” Theo said as he turned his head over his shoulder back out towards the trees. “Ruth heard it running out.” 

Ruth narrowed her eyes slightly before elbowing at Theo, her brows knit together and face scowled in disapproval at his words. Before she could even open her mouth, Theo held his hands up in a sign of truce. 

“Hey, at least it’s probably going to bring it’s target in alive, Wallace fucked up more in this situation,” the black haired man teased slightly, his blue eyes crinkling at the ability to poke fun at his group leader. 

  Huxley pulled a face at that, clearly displeased. “We get to deal with a dead body? Really?” He deadpanned, voice devoid of any humor. “It’s one thing to ferry living targets but dead people?” He crouched down and felt around the area, hand retracing slightly from the moving, living target before reaching the still one. A sigh escaped his lips as he felt the flesh, cold, not only from the rain, but just warm beneath the surface. Freshly killed, he knew they’d have to move even faster with it. “You know he’s not going to be pleased with this, right? She feels so frail, barely changed… You didn’t have to kill her-” 

“We’ll deal with it just fine,” Wallace shot back. He hates for his status as a proxy to be called into question. The air grew tense and almost awkward before the rustling grew just a hair louder. Everyone’s attention snapped back to illuminated darkness to see the tallest of the temporary group emerge from the trees. Her hair was pulled back, almost as fiery as the glowing house. She seemed hardly bothered by the way the house burned, wood splintering as it sent more smoke into the sky.  

Her expression immediately fell upon seeing the dead body. She crossed her muscular arms, barely greeting anyone as she frowned. ‘I know he gave you charge on how to handle it, but this was unnecessary,’ she signed with a deep sigh, her taller form looking down on everyone with disdain. She nodded slightly to Ruth, passing a small glance at Wallace in the sense of respect those with respectable images have and readjusted her posture slightly. A small, barely audible ‘hello’ passed from her lips to Huxley who seemed to lighten at her presence. 

“Yeah, yeah, everyone make fun of Wallace hours, where’s the cat, Amelia?” Theo quipped in a light hearted tone that veiled a threat. He didn’t seem as pleased with anyone else making fun of his group leader but himself. However, there was an air of respect with how he held his tone with the taller woman. 

‘With the third,’ she answered curtly. 

As if on cue, Nyein stumbled out from the woods holding the unconscious body of the third proxy with no plans to put her down. He waved as if to tell the others to pick the two up and head out. With their one free hand, Nyein asked everyone to follow. It didn’t seem that they wanted to be stuck in the rain for much longer, or near the giant fire. 

“I got her,” Ruth said as she began to scoop up the body before feeling a hand on her shoulder. Glancing upwards, she met Amelia’s eyes and smiled upon seeing her shake her head. “Thanks,” she said softly as she stepped back. 

Amelia crouched down herself and effortlessly picked up the body, slinging her over her shoulder like she was a sack of flour. She nodded for the others to follow, barely pausing to let Wallace pick up the still squirming proxy before heading off into the woods with everyone else in tow. 

Huxley walked beside Amelia, listening to the sounds of the forest during the storm. It was nice to stop smelling the burning house - his lungs finally had a moment or so of respite. “Wonder what kind of beaters are going to be sent to deal with this one,” he mused as he kept pace with everyone. 

“That fire’s gonna be blazing for a little while,” Wallace replied as he absentmindedly tapped at his side, feeling for his pistol. He slapped some of the leaves away. “I said it earlier, but that really could’ve gone smoother.” 

Small, exhausted chuckles sounded off from the group. 

“That’ll be on my gravestone.”
