Shakespeare and Swing Dancing
This year has been spinning faster and faster as it progresses. Here are some clues about where you can find me this summer, as well as some highlights from my spring.
TImothy McCown Reynolds as Hamlet
The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark
That’s right. That Hamlet. I’m co-directing Loup Garou Internationale’s production of Hamlet for The Brick Theater’s Shakespeare in the Theater Festival. It’s my first time working with this group and they are all absolutely delightful. I’m very happy with how the show is shaping up. Showtimes are 7/9 at 5pm, 7/13 at 7pm, and 7/24 at 2pm. Tickets are $18 and can be purchased on the Brick’s website.
The Dysfunctional Swingers
We’re back! Pleased to say that the Dysfunctional Swingers have returned to Governors Island for another season of FREE swing lessons and performances as part of the Dysfunctional Collective. And we start this Sunday the 10th! Come visit us at the Dysfunctional Collective House in Nolan Park, House 8B between 12-5 and take a free lesson from me, Brendan Patrick McGlynn, and Bryce Weinert. Perfect for all levels and ages. And if you miss this one, there are two more dates in September. For more information, check out our facebook page.
Sparrow Film Project 13
Our film “Cat’s Nine Lives” got a nod for “Best Costume Design”. As producer I was quite pleased with the film we shot. The Sparrow Film Project is a contest which stipulates that you have to make a 3 minute film in 3 weeks with individualized requirements. As this was their 13th year, a superstitions theme ruled. The requirements for our group are listed at the beginning of the video. And since we were nominated, we were invited to the gala where we saw the other nominated films. I was blown away by the level of creativity in the room. Such an inspiring project and we had such a great time creating this. Can’t wait until next year.
Full of IT
I was asked to write a piece for the New York Innovative Theater Awards Blog as part of their April focus on women in the theater. I wrote a brief piece on my relationship with choreography and it can be found here. The whole month had amazing posts by talented and devoted female artists and I was honored to be a part of it.
Immense congratulations to Circle Theater's own Isaac Bush on WINNING the Outstanding Original Choreography/Movement for #TheMountain 👏🏽 #NYITAwards @nyitawards @imbush 📷credit @miss_trostle
