For Rivet and Kit(?): "...Purely scientific question, but how might someone help a species repopulate when there's just one person left?"
"I mean, if it's just you pairing-up with a compatible species and your kids pairing-up with the same species afterwards, it really wouldn't be 'coming back'. It would just be 'compatible species with a little bit of something else', but with less and less of you as the generations go on."
"Cloning could help, but just cloning wouldn't fix all of it---because it's still you, even if you're getting more hybrid kids that way. Gotta have genetic diversity, you know? No, uhh... Family trees becoming wreaths, so to speak..."
"But what if someone recovered the DNA of deceased people and cloned them? It would be a bigger gene-pool to draw from and you all could have kids with each other AND that compatible species. More people you can find, the better."
"Now here comes the controversial part: genetic manipulation. Gene-splicing---not to make some kind of Super Person or anything bad, no! Jurassic Park sequels told us EXACTLY why that's a bad idea! But what if some people from the compatible species VOLUNTEERED to become hybrids? Just a little bit from you and the others."
"Even if all of this works though, it's gonna take a while. Legitimately, it's gonna be something scientists spend their whole lives doing. Maybe even another generation or two of scientists. I don't want to give you false hope or anything and I'm definitely not someone who could do it, but it might be a good starting point?" --Wretch @the-damned-and-divine
" Eh i'm an Engineer... not a doctor or gene specialist... i wouldn't know a genome from a chromosome. But i guess technically you'd have to create a hybrid species... wouldn't be the same species but something entirely knew. Technically atfer a few hundred generations the genes for the species would probably disappear or be so diluted it might as well not exist..."
" woah i just shoot things, i don't know a thing about uhh what ever she just said...you'd probably need to ask an expert..."
" OH OH! i can answer this! actually we mobians sort of solved this issue via evolution! As a mobian child either takes after the mother or the father. Using sparse genetic information from both parents. Technically a hybrid but they are so genetically similar to mother or father you'd never know there was mixing at all! there are rare mutations--- but there existence is in the low 1% of the population. "
They adjusted there glasses
" As for scientific solutions! cloning could be used if you had a large enough sample size and a genetically compatible species! you could use gene editing to create a genetically similar species! again technically a hybrid but so similar to the origin species you would never know the difference! though it is likely much more difficult proposal! but you are not wrong... in all reality if you are but the last--- even if there were two, you species is all but doomed! "
" Yea... uhh what the shrimpy nerd said..."
