I've been working on these resolutions/plans for a while, because I was kinda winging it all throughout 2014 and the last time I had NYRs I really stuck to was 2012 but that went really well for me so I'm trying that again.
Practice guitar. Every single day. Because I get grumpy when I don't play and I really want to be a better musician.
Write. Every single day. Even if it's just 4 lines of poetry or a single chorus of a song or the first page of a novel I'll never finish. Because, again, I fall into a really bad mood when I don't. And a creative career really isn't going to pan out well for me if I don't start writing more. Quite frankly, I actually think I write well when I actually try, so I should start trying more often.
Read more. Novels and fanfiction and books about film theory/production/history and television scripts and articles about the music industry and just everything. I'm not going to be able to write anything worth reading/watching/listening to if I don't get into the habit of reading way more again.
Pay more attention to music. This was pretty much my most important NYR in 2012 and I'm happy with what that did for me, but now I kinda want to shift to focusing more on other types of music that I don't listen to as often and maybe don't even like as much. Because there's something to learn from everyone, and there's a reason popular music is popular, whether or not I like it, and there's a reason some indie artists have such loyal fanbases, even if they don't appeal to everyone, and I want to just have a better understanding of that overall.
Go to as many concerts as possible. Before I graduate, I want to see a bunch of shows at Zed, because it's such a tiny café and audience and it's so different from the experience you'd get at a bigger show. I have to see PF at some point late in the year because by that time I'll be at a solid 3 and a half years of being a fan which is wayyy overdue to finally make it to a concert. And if TOP and/or 5sos also want to announce tour dates that work for me when I start college that would be wonderful. But apart from the faves I want to just see a bunch of local bands play tiny venues and buy tickets to see shows with no expectations going in because again, I feel like there's a lot to learn from experiencing music live that I wouldn't normally listen to.
Make more youtube videos. I'm not sure if 1 video a week is really going to work but I definitely want to shoot for 3 videos a month. And I'm actually going to start properly promoting them like I need to get over this inability to tell people about them because it makes me feel awkward like I'm going to get literally nowhere if I don't make more videos and promote them and at least attempt to get better.
Dress the way I want to more often and take more selfies. Who cares what anyone else thinks? I'm gonna dye my hair the way I want to and buy cool shoes and loads of merch and paint my nails and just not care what anyone else has to say about it because it doesn't matter and I need to get that into my head this year.
