“a profound thought for a soldier who must commit monstrosities in the name of order,” answers lunafreya as she turns away from nyx to survey the night sky outside their hotel room window.  with care, she nurses a glass of white wine — an expense she insisted upon to help her sleep at night.  the collapse of insomnia is still fresh in her mind, unable to help but briefly wonder what her star-crossed pen pal must think of the devastation.  “forgive me, i’ve had too much wine,” she lies with a sigh, rubbing her temples.

how could the gods allow any of this?

“what say you then, nyx?” lunafreya directs her attention towards him, lifting her somber gaze to meet his.  it’s late — they should probably go to bed, but conversation that skims past the surface level is rare.  and in truth, it helps even just a little.  “tell me what the difference is because i don’t know if i know anymore.”

        a profound thought                  is it ? nyx has never cared much for the order - it´s religion. all the monstrous things, as the princess puts it - none of them have been for the order, or their gods. none of his breath was spent for it. no, he is    /  was  /  ?  /   a member of the  kingsglaive.  he breathes, lives, fights for the  king . a king, who now lays buried in the ruins of insomnia. the gods, high and mighty in both appearance and ego - just watched. nyx can still feel the burn of the royal ring in his hand.  what are gods to a non believer ?  

       what´s the difference ? to him, there´s none.  not anymore - his faith in the above shattered a long time ago with the screams of his sister and again now, with crows dead gaze boring into his soul and the voice of his king in his ear: please, nyx ulric. keep her safe.  for the future of all.   he´s made  his  decision, but she -  so young, so lost. . .  he straightens up, his gaze fixed upon the night sky before eventually shifting to meet hers.    ❛  i think that´s something you have to find out and decide for yourself, princess.  ❜     fate is a cruel mistress, dealing out cards without any regards or compassion. they all have a heavy cross to bear, but hers might just be the heaviest of them all.
