THIS HOUSE HAS EARS

He looks left.
Looks right.
Points to himself. Is... he in trouble? "Should I be concerned?" He is immediately concerned.
Call it a curiosity, or a whim, that she steps up to his desk. Her hands were folded gently in front of her, polite as she stares up at him. “ Lord Hades, ” She greets. “ I mean no disrespect with my question, I suppose I am simply curious, but.. are you truly unhappy here ? ”
UNPROMPTED. // @nyxiium
As he listens to her querie, the Lord still busies himself writing on a document. His quill moves swiftly and diligently, as this is how he works. And then, before it runs out of ink, he lifts his pen away and puts it down.
“ 𝐈 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐞𝐥𝐬𝐞. ”
He couldn’t help but find annoyance in the question himself. He meant no disrespect to Nyx, far from it. But he’d rather not reflect too much on what he feels. Because not thinking about it is what kept him grounded.
“ My feelings on the matter are pointless. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐝𝐢𝐞. No ammount of anger and fury will be enough to challenge Fate. ”

It was calm today, she would think. The shades moved slowly on their way to whatever it was they chose to do, and all was fairly quiet, save for the grumbling of Hades at his desk and she, tucked away in her little corner (adorned with flowers) had nothing to say. It was so quiet, in fact, that she could hear how the pool rippled, how the surface was disturbed by her son emerging from it’s waters, and she peeks out from her corner to see him.
Just enough to see him, her child, as he padded his way through the building and greeted his friends. Hypnos and Cerberus, Achilles and Thanatos, the Gorgon Head then.. he pauses, she sees, and her brows raise in curiosity. She blinks and he is gone, and she peeks further still to catch a glimpse of her mischievous boy.
“Oh!” Her voice is soft, startled as she catches him, peeking out from behind a column that sat next to Cerberus. She peeks out a little more, as does he. She recedes, and, so too, does Zagreus.
He was mimicking her.
A hand comes up to her lips, and she cannot stifle her giggle. He knows. And she knows he does, from the smile on his face. She loves him, truly, as her own son, and hopes the world and more for him. But, for now, she would be content with these little moments she can spare for him.
The prince always did love to play such tricks, especially if he were to be rewarded with a smile or a giggle. There was something truly satisfying in causing the night herself to laugh. Of course, Zagreus responded to the sight with a large grin, one that transpired how proud he was to have managed this feat- even his chest puffed a tad, emphasizing this notion.
The young man was practically beaming.
But then came the time for him to approach lady night. Thus, he halted his mischief and made his way to the flower-decorated area. He carried that smile all the way there and stopped by an arm’s distance from her. “It’s nice to see you in good spirits, Nyx.” The prince remarked, the unmatched eyes regarding Nyx rather fondly and displaying a certain tenderness.
“You know- that makes me wonder... if the underworld would be a lot more dull without me around and would give everyone less reasons to smile. That’s without counting my father- I don’t think I’ve ever seen him in good spirits. He has this permanent scowl stuck on his face.”
