30 uncommon character development questions
Are they a leader, do they prefer to follow, or would they rather just stay on the sidelines altogether?
A little of column A, a little of column B. Not so much of column C, though. Link is, ultimately, a soldier, and as such he’s quite good at following orders. However, he’s also got a fierce independence streak and he absolutely will rebel if he doesn’t agree with the decisions made by the person he’s following. He knows he’s not the greatest at strategy, but he can lead, and he can inspire, if pressed. He’s much more comforable being the muscle and have someone else at the wheel, though. But he definitely doesn’t want to sit ont he sidelines. He’s not one for inaction. He’s certainly nonconfrontational, sure -- but if he hears the call to action, he’s gonna answer it.
In his preferred role, though, he’s not really a leader. He’s a driving force, a doer. He’s the cavalry. And just because he can lead doesn’t mean he wants to. This is partially his own personality, and partially the role given him by the Triforce.
Does your character get restless when things are too quiet or do they favour solitude and silence? Why?
Ha. Silence definitely does not make him restless. Quite the opposite, actually. Too much noise, too many people, and generally too much sensory stimulus freaks him way the fuck out and tends to overload him, so he escapes to quiet to get his shit back together. He generally prefers solitude to company, though there are certain people to which he makes exception. And that’s not to say he dislikes socialization. Wolves are social creatures, after all. But he doesn’t like too much of it. He needs his alone time. It’s vital to him -- maybe not on the level of food or water, but it’s up there.
Just to sidetrack a little bit, Midna was a great companion for him because she just hid in his shadow all the time. He knew she was there, and her presence was comforting, but at the same time he could feel alone if he needed to. She was there to talk when he needed a conversation, but she was also unobtrusive. And Link was there for Midna as a comforting force, I like to think They kept each other coolheaded, and I think that’s very important.
