Video footage of orca close to shore 21st August 2019 Moa Point/Island Bay, Wellington, New Zealand
This time round in the South Island we decided to brave the cold Akaroa water to see if these wee poppets would be interested in some company and I was NOT expecting how intrigued they would be by us! They did so many swim-bys and I could hear them chattering under the waves, it was incredible (as you can probably tell by my goober face....)
I love how much work the local tourism offices have done to get these rare dolphins more protection. And every single swimmer contributes more money to the cause, so that these beauties can hopefully recover and thrive in their natural environment <3
Maui dolphins are the smallest and rarest marine dolphins on earth. They live only in New Zealand,... (530 signatures on petition)
Just 45 Maui's dolphins survive. They are now so rare that they can sustain just one human caused fatality every 10-23 years. Fishing nets alone kill more than 54 times that each year. But the New Zealand government refuses to tread on the fishermen's toes, whose nets are picking off the dolphins one by one.
Please sign and share this far and wide. Help the last 45 Maui!
An investigation by German conservation group NABU International revealed that New Zealand officials and fishermen have concealed the death of an extremely rare Maui’s dolphin in a commercial fishing net.
BREAKING NEWS! MAUI'S DOLPHIN DEATH SUPPRESSED
Have re-done the listing photo for my Maui / Hectors dolphin necklace.
Tweaked the design little-by-little over the last few months and I’m much happier with it now.
Restocked today.
