Trevor Cohen & Dia King: Announcement @ iHeart Radio Music Festival
"Don't die... Don't die on me. Please..." BUT not for Jam... for Dia and Adam.
Don’t die. Don’t die. That’s what Adam kept telling himself over and over again. It’s what Dia was telling him, too. But time was going by so slowly. He was bleeding out. The warehouse was empty, and the only person there was his cousin. The ambulance was on its way. But Adam didn’t care.
"Hanna? D-did you call her? And the kids?" He breathed out frantically, fighting the desire to just fall back and close his eyes. He did the best he could to sit up, only to be pushed gently back down by Dia.
That’s when Adam knew he was a lost cause. He started crying. Not because he was dying.
He could handle dying. It was everyone here that would get the short end of the stick.
Hanna. His kids. His brothers. Dia.
Dia was his best friend. Even when she was little and he pretended to be annoyed by her, she was his best friend. The minute that Adam lost it, so did she. She buried her face down into his chest, continuously begging him not to die. “Don’t die on me. Please…” she sobbed, gripping onto his bloody shirt. Maybe this was all karma for what he’d done to Parker. Maybe this was all catching up to him.
But did he really deserve all of this for killing another man? Not seeing his children grow up. Not seeing Dia get married. Not walking his daughters down the aisle, nor giving his son a talk about always respecting his mother.
Not telling Zach thank you for everything and making sure that he and Henry didn’t get into it too much.
There was still so much left to say and do.
"Listen to me, Dia. I’m not gonna make it." He paused, grasping onto his chest. It hurt. "I just wanted to tell you that I love you. You’re my best friend. I don’t want you ever to forget how special and important you were to me." He coughed. "Tell Henry and Zach… tell ‘em that I love them. And Hanna? Tell her… tell her thank you for giving me the most beautiful children ever, and that I love her."
Dia was losing it now, and Adam felt himself growing weaker and weaker. “Hey. It’s okay. Just pretend you’re six again and having a bad dream.”
He could hear the ambulances nearing just as he closed his eyes.
