I’m always curious why people think they can predict celebs are friends or not through social media. I don’t wish my good friends happy birthday through instagram, I actually call them like normal people would do. personal messages always work better then social media. We do know these people have each other’s phone numbers right? I’ve watched interviews where people were talking about WhatsApp groups. We can’t tell anything from social media.
I agree with you... and also disagree with you.
I don’t think we can really assume anything about a celebrity or their life based on their Social Media activity alone. I mean, it’s basically just a big ad for said celebrity anyway, and I think most of them have a private account somewhere to keep up with their real friends and family, anyway. Social Media is more or less a big platform (oh no, I’ve said the word!) for a celebrity to put out and promote whatever “image” they want the public to have of them.
That said, there are certainly tells to be had there. There’s still certain people that noticeably interact more often, or in a friendlier way, or in ways that clearly imply there is a deeper, real-life relationship behind it. There are those that one seeks interaction with and looks for or jumps on chances to interact with, and those that only get interacted with when they essentially ask for it, or once a year on their birthday. And even then, there are those who get effusive birthday wishes, and those who get the bare minimum.
Take Colin and Sean, for instance. Colin actively seeks out interacting with Sean, and vice-versa. They comment on each other’s posts and comments. Their interactions are easy-going and full of fun. They’ve both posted pictures and jokes that indicate they actually hang out, visit each other’s homes, are well-versed in making each other laugh, etc, etc. They bring the other one up all the time at conventions without any prompting. They speak the world of each other, and in the present tense - which indicates the bond is still going strong and still means a lot to both of them. No, social media alone doesn’t tell us this... but it IS one of many valuable tells that ultimately paints the picture of a healthy, solid friendship between them.
It also indicates that neither of them has any problem having a big ol’ friendship right in public, in front of everyone and their salads. I’ve seen no indication ever that Colin is inclined to hide his friendships. He’s a friendly guy. If he likes you, he’ll like your posts, support your projects, walk your dog, pop up in your mentions, respond to your comments, tease the shit out of you, show up in your videos, do charity things with ya, tell everybody how lovely (or horrible XD) you are, appear in your window with whiskey and a Star Wars box-set... I mean, I honestly think that what you see is what you get with him.
