ALL of the reviews of Album Music on RYM mention Edward Skeletrix and it's so grim... the comparisons to Museum Music are so facile and surface level it's hard not to call it for what it is* but i'm going to hold my tongue and address it on the musical front.
Album Music shares some samples with it because a lot of producers are using those samples right now!! they're in the public consciousness. both albums have lots of autotune and overdriven bass - people have been experimenting with extreme autotune since the 2000s and overdriven bass has been popular for years now thanks in part to the popularity of genres like hyperpop and producers like F1lthy pushing that sound with rappers like Carti.
this, a similar title, and one writing credit is enough to treat Album Music like an attempt to ape Museum Music? it's so much more melodic and structured, its beats so much more defined and driven - plus o0o actually tries their hand at hooks. they're projects with completely different moods. you know what it reminds me of much, much more? another album with lots of autotune, overdriven bass, industrial drums and sharp synths.
Yeezus! Album Music sounds like it was made by someone whose favorite Kanye album by a long shot is Yeezus. in fact, it fills a nice void since i stopped listening to Kanye way back, even if it's pretty far from reaching the same emotional heights as Yeezus.
i'm not in an eloquent mood tonight so all i can say is that it really feels like everyone who so confidently treats Album Music like a cheap imitation of Museum Music must have just started listening to music this year. please go listen to some more fucking hip hop
