193 PERY 1148 Oak Knoll Line El Molino Ave 19500930 AKW by Metro Library and Archive Via Flickr: From photographer's notes - "This batch shows part of the old Oak Knoll line from Los Angeles to Pasadena. The Oak Knoll line was the first line to be abandoned in the Northern District (post war). It was abandoned on Oct 7, 1950 along with the Sierra Madre Line. The 1100's were my favorite PE Cars. They were purchased by a company in Argentina and ran there for years. All the other 1100's were taken off of the remaining Northern Dist. lines and replaced by Hollywood type cars. Then there are pictures of the dismantling of the line. I know they make some people sad and they make me sad but they are part of the photographic history of the railroad. The PERY did some of the work themselves with home made equipment. Both rail and motorized. Then the heavy rail pulling was done by a primitive homemade machine and a contractor. It must have taken a long time to build this line when it was new. I am always struck by how fast it is to dismantle a line when it is abandoned." Alan Weeks (Photos) November 25, 2016
