The federal government is funding $400 million for a flood barrier for Staten Island, or as Crains put it, "the only borough to vote for President Donald Trump is getting a wall." On Tuesday a deal was reached between the feds, city, and state to fund a five-mile system of protective barriers including berms, levees, and walls that will rise to 22.5 feet in certain areas. The barriers will start at #FortWadsworth, just south of the #Verrazzzano and go down to #OakBeach with recreational areas, bike paths and boardwalks along the way. The barriers will protect the eastern shore of Staten Island that was flooded during superstorm Sandy in 2012. #statenisland #floodbarrier #bigu #thenarrows #easternstatenisland #statenislandferry #statenislandadvance #nyc #brooklyn #globalwarming #urbanism #nychistory (at Staten Island, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/BuJpVsjnTYf/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1dfao341mav04
