Mourning the passing of a legend.
Ranger's Apprentice was probably my first fandom.
I will never forget the first time we listened to Ruins of Gorlan. My parents liked listening to audiobooks on road trips, probably where my audiobook habit started, so we started listening to it for a regular trip to Grandparents house. But it was February and on our way back a huge snowstorm hit the highway. Total whiteout. We were lucky, and stopped a few cars behind a massive pile up. Still the road was blocked for hours and as the narrator got to the end of the book the howling wind outside only better set the mood.
Anyway huge fan kept up with all the new releases through college. Never fully recovered from Royal Ranger. But perserved.
Pictured below is the oakleaf necklace I made in middle school and wore nearly every day for at least a year. The charm was originally silver colored from JoAnns, and the cord was leftover from my brother's knife handle wrapping.
Finally to celebrate the books here is some fanart.
Rest in Peace John Flanagan.
I never got to meet you in person, but I am so glad I stayed up until 3am to join a live Q&A on Facebook on night. You liked my comment and I loved the world you created. Thank you!
