Outside the Shirley Sherwood Botanical Art Gallery, Kew Gardens, London, the Hydrangea quercifolia (oak-leaved hydrangea) had a fine display of late autumn colour. This spreading deciduous shrub has large, deeply lobed leaves that turn red and purple in autumn. The cream flowers are produced in conical panicles. This Hydrangea grows best in moist but well-drained soil in sun or partial shade.
