I Am Oak | Curt
...read my gaze like a book.
A blog I've been reading now for years, Captain Obvious, recently went through a major site redesign and joined the world of twitter (@ThanksCap) - I believe it was a post on Radical Face that got me revisiting the site initially, but there are a lot of tracks that have been posted here that were influenced by a heads up from over there. It's amazing the similarity in taste sometimes.
Take the above track from I Am Oak for example. Curt is a the kind of song that plays like a quiet, whimsical moment sitting on the porch with a drink in your hand - there's no sense of urgency as the verses swing back and forth between gentle harmonies and notes from a drooping guitar. Giant is much the same, as the rest of the album (from what I've heard) promises to be. Oasem is the latest from Netherlands' Thijs Kuijken, and while I'm largely unfamiliar with I Am Oak, these tracks are enough to make me want to change that.
Oasem was released on May 13th, and can be picked up via I Am Oak's website or bandcamp. I really think this one needs to be talked about more. Check out a live vid for An Oxen off the debut album On Claws below, and don't forget to check out Captain Obvious when you can.
