CultureHISTORY: The Cast of Hamilton - The White House (March 2016) - #ObamaFarewell
"The people will hear from me... One last time And if we get this right, we’re gonna teach ‘em how to say Goodbye"
From a cast performance at the WH last March featuring Lin-Manuel Miranda and the incredible vocals of Tony-nominated Christopher Jackson, this is one of the show's highlights. It’s also another chance to appreciate LMM’s stunning writing and, at the end, he uses portions of George Washington’s actual Address which was written with the help of Alexander Hamilton.
Watching this talented young diverse cast perform for the Obamas was stirring and as the song concluded one of the background singers had tears in her eyes.
Some things Obama will never be forgotten for.

#VintagePBO: President Obama & First Lady Michelle Obama - 2012 Re-Election Campaign - Iowa, August 2012
A few photos & words to give context to the final famous image:
“Asked why he was hugging the first lady so hard, the president answered without hesitation, “Because I love my wife.” Michelle Obama gave a chuckle and went into further detail. “Also, I hadn’t seen him in a while... You know, when you’re campaigning... we’re two ships passing in the night, and the first time I saw him was when I walked on stage to greet him. And that’s my honey giving me a hug’. The president chimed back in, telling Michelle, ‘I like giving you hugs.’” - Huffington Post (November 2012)
In future times, I think Barack Obama’s re-election campaign will come to be hallowed by the historians. In the face of so much hatred and bigotry (including GOP CEOs proclaiming they would fire workers over ACA here, here and here), this man prevailed. He and his wife prevailed. And they gave us four more years of greatness. No matter what comes, everyone, and especially PoC, should be proud that we were alive for this moment in history.
