I like OBDLCs a normal amount
Fanart for some designs for people’s Otto Brain Level!! Kinda concepty but I really should be working on other things haha, these look good nuff tho!
@aquato-family-circus ‘s 0tt0 Mechanus + boss fight poster like thing!
@banjo-bugs ‘s figment Otto
@save-me-san-fran-psychonauts ‘s clippy Otto
Apologies if it strained anyone’s eyes haha, I do have a weakness for high contrast + high saturation stuff
I think Turing and 0tt0 would get along much too well and therefore should not be allowed to interact.
Anyways, here they are, interacting. This was the best artfight attack I could do, so please, go give @aquato-family-circus, owner of 0tt0, some love!

I had a blast from the past, seeing your Otto Brain DLCs on my dash. I've been thinking about Psychonauts again.
Something clicked in my brain, when I refound posts about the stylistic shock inside Bob's Bottles and Ford's massive construct of himself. The usual cartoony Psychonauts style, before BAM. Hyperrealistic Helmut Skull and the inside of Ford's head with stylized / dream-logic but still much more realistically rendered bones, his tongue, eyeballs.
Specifically, I think it fits the the dissonance in Mentallis' Movies. Between the both sanitized but also actionfied version told to the public and the terror and trauma of the memories of entering the ravaged Grulovia (they likely saw bodies), having to fight Lucy as Maligula, thinking that Helmut died in the waters, that Lucy died because Ford needed to kill her, etc.
It could be the Showman going for a bit of shock value for a scene in the documentary. People love a good scare if it's not too much! It draws attention through morbid curiosity!
Except. The little 'shock moment' becomes viscerally real. I haven't figured out what he intended and what he actually got. (It needs to fit P2's rating.) Unlike with Bob and Ford, it gets directly acknowledged, by the Showman quickly hiding everything while he laughs uncomfortably. Otto's defenses are unravelling.
Otto doesn't fear the idea of death per se. It's just a part of life to him. He finds disembodied brains fascinating. But he fears loss. I like the idea that the events when Maligula was unleashed again (retraumatized!), plus the recent weeks, have shifted his mental associations.
And I love the contrast of the usual associations of machinery (which is as cartoony as the rest!) with Otto, to the organic motif.
I really love the dissonance of when a more "real" looking use of bones or guts appears in the games. Meat circus is cartoony enough from just being rendered in the old graphics style but I think it also counts, there's something visceral about being reminded about meat and bones and death inside the ephemeral mental world.
Mentallis' Movies is one I haven't thought abt in a while but I love the idea here. Something meant to just dazzle and shock the audience ending up being too much and a result of Otto losing control of the show.
My mind goes to Disney's Body Wars and other similar science exhibits I've seen, where the point is to show the internal workings of the human body. Maybe it's an edutainment movie in that vein, where it kind of makes you sick to look at it bc seeing the inside of the body is sort of upsetting to most people. I'm still not sure exactly how it would roll out in the mental world narrative but that's my contribution to why it would come up
Otto's relationship with death is a rich vein to dig into... he seems like the kinda guy who brushes it off but also has plans to fight it off as long as possible. the showman in him grapples with the fact the show can not go on forever and every movie has an ending
Compared to Compton's Cookoff, I feel Mentallis' Movies stages would include a lot more backstages as well sets, showing the stage of completion of the different 'scenes'. (I didn't mean to make this into a pun, but it fits really well!) It's an on-going movie shoot setting, after all.
You're never done dazzling the audience! You must make sequels upon sequels! (Aka placating and impressing the public.)
you come across a backstage/greenroom type area with movie posters like PSYCHONAUTS 56: PLEASE FUND OUR NEW MAILROOM!! Starring Otto and Truman
Otto Brain DLC. Hollis preemptively calls from her vacation into the Motherlobe and requests another week of vacation. She had a feeling... Truman looks around and sighs, "I'll finalize the paperwork. You've built up enough for another one, and we have enough hands."
Because it'd be unfair to dump all of that chaos at Hollis' feet just as she returned to work.
Using precognition to avoid the chaos of this mess, queen shit
Funny idea for your two Otto Brain DLC AUs.
One of the Mental Denizens Raz meets in Mentallis' Marvels is a robot emaluating Otto but wearing an elaborate outfit and acting more like Tincan Zanotto in Compton's mind.
The Showman complains about 0tt0's micromanaging everything recently. He doesn't have a shred of pizzaz! How are they supposed to bedazzle any potential investors like this if he (the Showman) isn't at the front?
-----
In Mentallis' Movies, 0tt0 is a stressed director ticking off lists for the movies. He knows they have to make a good impression in front of the press and he WILL do his job, but the Showman doing this whole hubbub is keeping them from actual productive work that will bring in money! Like developing the mini-astrolethes!
REALLY funny to imagine all these different flavors of Otto's psyche having Opinions about each other and one becomes more prominant than the other depending on which of these aus is happening! I like that a lot, it lines up with my perception of the Mind in Psychonauts that visiting a brain isn't always gonna get you the same landscape and issues every time
it also gives Otto a Cassie parallel in that he's compartmentalizing different parts of himself like that. I really like whenever parallels between those 2 can be drawn since they both recognize the self in the other and go OH EW, GROSS
also WHEW, its been a hot minute since I thought abt the other aus that got talked abt here besides the main 0tt0/Mentallis Marvels/Otto's Immune System concept
Otto Brain DLC. As the loving friends they are, the rest of the Psychic Seven sometimes stack things on Otto's face during his frequent naps post Brain Visit.
Otto's resigned to it. He tells them that whoever wakes him from his nap before he does on his own or make things falls on his face owes him at least two times an expensive lunch, bought or self-made.
It's like a game of reverse jenga. Winner of the heighest stack so far has been Ford bc he's the best judge of when Otto may or may not wake up and ruin his streak.
