Obed Wild and Scenic River in Tennessee looks much the same today as it did when people first came to the area. The rocky landscape, rushing waters and poor farming soil hindered permanent settlement, but did provide productive fishing and hunting for Native Americans, trappers and pioneers. Some of those same conditions make the Obed a popular recreation area today. Visitors can canoe, raft, hike, climb, fish and simply enjoy the rugged scenery of a free flowing river flowing through 500-foot-deep gorges. Photo courtesy of Larry Coffey.
