Assembler doesn’t know the location of sections and the locations fo external references. We assume all sections and external references start at zero. The linker will fix this problem. 

Object Files

Sections: code, data. Contains size, current location, initial contents. 

Symbol table, exports: name, section, offset. 

Relocation records: symbol name, section / offset.
