Max’s father talks about how he is realizing that Max’s diagnosis is not something that can be fixed or mediated. He uses the quote, “this is for life.” His expressed view at this news portrays Max’s condition in a negative light.
Max’s mother, however, defends Max as not only “the bad stuff,” but “smart, he’s beautiful, and there’s so much potential. And hope.”
However, this positive lecture ends with her saying that now, they have to work, adding to the stereotype of Max being “work,” or a BURDEN.
