Objective Drawing
For my pieces I had a look around at the sculptures that were in the university and picked some that I liked the look of, both these statues were in the same room and the lighting was really nice so caused a lot of shadows, and set up a nice contrast, I really liked the idea of exploring the limits of contrast and breaking an image down to its fundamentals, so I set out the break down the statues into their basic forms using minimal colour and shape, essentially making a monotone print, with the statue that was near the fire extinguisher the red of the can reflected on the statue so I wanted to make sure that I added that into the picture somehow. I was pleased with the outcome of my drawings however I wold have liked to do a few more sketches just to make sure the figure looks a bit more like the statue, however because the task was only 3 hours I didn’t want to get to hung up on the final product and more on the ideas and ways of documenting the statue, I also tried out a bit of blind drawing as well as I liked the contrast between the two different ways of documenting, so I did a few sketches of the statues but only looking at them and not the paper, and I really enjoyed this process, its different to what I had done before. If I was to do the project again I spend more time especially with the a1 drawing as I fell this is still incomplete and although i like the look I feel as if because of the style of drawing I chose to do the forms and colours need to be solid in order to look complete.
These were the images that i liked working from most, i like the composition of the first one and the cultural differences between the centuries old sculpture next to a modern day fire extinguisher, the colours swell i think work really well, and the contrast on the second image works perfectly to create a monotone image.
An 'objective' drawing. To creat our 'objective' drawing we created a divise which uses a pencil, pin and string to help draw the life model. This made it hard as you could only use curved motions and our scale was small but it was really fun!
