"Papa taught me well!" Much sarcasm.
"Maybe if you stopped wetting your bed so much, son, I wouldn't have left you at Akira's!"

Blue eyes behind glances shifted up from papers as he heard footsteps. Slowly, Arima placed the papers down and straightened up. He pulled his attention away from the words and poorly drawn diagrams. They were minor things that he just had to memorize but he was in no rush or hurry. He understood them which was enough for now and better than most.
“Haise —- did you wish to speak about something with me?”
I'm sorry
What can he do to take it all back? What can he do to make it better? To erase what he has done? Valkyr doesn't have a clue. He doesn't have any answer to that question. He abandoned a friend, in their time of need, simply because "there was nothing he could do". He abandoned his friend, because he didn't want to watch them crumble knowing there was nothing he could do to stop it.
And now they're better. By some stroke of luck, they have recovered, and are fine (or at least it seems that way). And he wants to make things better. He's tried to apologize for leaving. He's tried to explain his reasoning. He's even tried ignoring the problem and acting like life has carried on. And it's not working. Now it's him who's been abandoned. Ignored.
He doesn't blame them. He knows it was selfish of him to leave like that. He knows he should have kept trying, even if he was too useless to help. Now he's... alone.
They probably hate him now. He wouldn't blame them. He would hate himself too right now. He doesn't want to try anymore. He wants to give up.
But giving up was what got him in this situation in the first place, wasn't it?
Valkyr is sitting by the Seine, watching the water. What should I do? he wonders. And still, there is no answer. No solution.
Giving up wasn't the right answer last time. But he's starting to wonder if it's the right answer this time. He can't force them to acknowledge him. He can't force them to accept his apology. He can only pray. And once again, he is faced with his uselessness. With his selfishness. With his stupidity, and insensitivity.
For not the first time... Valkyr hates himself.
I'm sorry.
