oblivimyre, the tower in which fintan's healing was held, is a tower that tiergan describes as "...from a different time. back before the ancient treaties were signed. when we needed to make an example."
he whispered the last word, like it was too horrible to say louder.
and then, "violence isnt the only way to instill fear." (everblaze, 274).
they then go through two floors, dragged through by chains attached to their ankles, in order to reach the floor fintan is on. later on fitz describes oblivimyre:
"i remember reading about it in elvin history. the whole tower is a trap, designed to make people go insane." (everblaze, 281).
both grady and sandor, upon learning where the healing will take place, refer to it as, "a place best forgotten." (everblaze, 270).
what is this tower? what -- and who -- was this for? prisoners? enemies? the other intelligent species?
whenever something ancient is mentioned i feel as though there's an extra layer to it. with elysian being as ancient as we think, could she know about the tower?
could it be related to vespera's nightfall? that description from fitz sounds a lot like the nightfall facility she wanted to create to test humans.
or could it have been a precursor to lumenaria? a place in which the elves would invite other species for commerce, and then instill fear in them with the sheer confusion of the tower?
i have no theories for it coming into play in the series, not that it could come back at all, because, well, it burned down. but what was this place?
who did the ancients intend to drive insane?
