𝐇𝐄 𝐇𝐀𝐃 𝐁𝐄𝐄𝐍 𝐓𝐎𝐎 𝐋𝐀𝐓𝐄. after weeks tracking down this unidentified , ravenous monster , the damned thing FINALLY laid it’s claws into yet another innocent , much to his chagrin. yejoon arrived far too late to the crime scene to find any 𝚝̲𝚛̲𝚊̲𝚌̲𝚎̲𝚜̲ of it nor get to LAY his eyes on it’s victim , but his sources provide him with the mortuary where the deceased was taken for a thorough observation.
he HATED morgues.
when he arrives , yejoon flashes one of his many fake ids , an essential when you find yourself WORKING in this sort of 𝚋̲𝚞̲𝚜̲𝚒̲𝚗̲𝚎̲𝚜̲𝚜̲ , to the woman sitting at the desk. ❛ detective min requesting to see the deceased that was recently brought in. ❜
the woman doesn’t speak a word but instead SLIPS him a key card. it was an access card for the morgue. he mutters his gratitude under his breath and heads to the elevators. he scans the key card and presses the button labeled in bold letters 𝙼̲𝙾̲𝚁̲𝙶̲𝚄̲𝙴̲ once he is inside , and a few moments later , the doors of the elevator reopen and he finds himself stepping into an eerie room that was cold and there was a lingering smell of DEATH that made his nose twitch.
there was no mistake , he was in the morgue.
❛ hello ? ❜ yejoon calls out , stepping further in. ❛ anyone here ? ❜

It’s shrill. It’s desperate, mangled, the screams he hears about her, the ugly and the tortured with a fainter, muted thing: overwhelmed. Smothered at sea. He’s confounded. The combination is altogether too sobering, those cries shuddering off her bones like storm-buffeted shingles, and why is that? Why is it that this woman sounds so-- “Trapped, the songbirds testing their wings in old cages. It’s sad, listening to you, listening to their singing. I buy them in the hundreds. I free them, too, you know.” He traces the bars to one. “They sing better out here. Should I free her, too?” The bird? Or her?
@obscend, waxing poetic (❤︎).
steps are slow , weary & heavy . the fox doesn’t want to be here , that much is KNOWN . she’d RATHER be anywhere else . but who wouldn’t , really ? mortuaries aren’t the happiest of places . in a sense , that may be the point , for them not to be fun … especially when someone you know is in there , someone you were once close with , laying on a slab of metal .
she’s even slower when approaching the body . she doesn’t even want to LOOK at him . seeing his lifeless body once was enough , when it was fresh . there’s something worse in looking at his body when he’s so much paler & purpled . it hurts more . so much more . & when she finally reaches his body , she can feel her heart PLUNGE deep all over again . a shaky hand lifts , wanting to reach up to hold his cheek , but is QUICKLY retracted at the sound of another’s steps . arisu steps away from her father , turning to the other as they walk into the room . the mortician , she gathers , judging by their clothing . the person she ACTUALLY came here to see .
❝ so what did you find that’s so important ? ❞ she says , putting up her ‘ tough ‘ wall as if the feelings prior never happened . ❝ what did you find in my dad ? ❞
