OCTOBER 31st, 1924. tradition –––– the annual french quarter fall festival is one to be celebrated every year. in the dead of night, children and adults alike venture into the streets where jazz music plays. the inviting notes have always made everyone dance, and to the tune, children run out and about, asking for candy where there’s not. many are dressed in costume, and terrifying ones at that. everyone in the quarter has been invited to enjoy what the night has to offer. come, you won’t regret it. 

EVENT # 1: THE FALL FESTIVAL | we are proud to announce our first event on obscurumhq. all residents of the french quarter have been invited to the annual fall festival. pumpkins, jazz music, costumes and the snuck-in alcohol will always be part of the festival. this event will last a week, in game time it will only take place for a single day (the night of october 31st going into the early morning of november 1st). current threads can be continued, however, please prioritize current event threads. please make sure to post a starter and reply to at least two other starters before posting your own. do interact with everyone, and feel free to plot with other players. all event starters should be tagged with #obscurum.event and #obscurum.event1 !!

A loud boom — much like an explosive ending of a grand rhapsody — and all was in flames. Whoever orchestrated this had the flair for the dramatic, for this was nothing short of a spectacle. Yet, she wonders, how she has not had even the smallest clue about this, considering the girls she had reporting to her. She was not quick to panic, but she did keep alert, eyes darting left and right.

She turned, seemingly against the tide and unfazed by the fire, though it was because she knew the streets — the dark nooks and crannies of the French Quarter — and she knew exactly where she was going. Turning into an alley, eyebrows raised as she saw a figure in the shadows. “Not many people know this shortcut.”

the tumult of people running through the streets was alarming. so much she stopped in her tracks for a second, taking the nearest building as support; bracing herself against the brick as the chaos ensued. this was the story she was looking for, finally enrolling just before her eyes. but it was terrifying to say the least. the causes were still unknown, for the darkness, for the newly made blaze in the distance. one would have to be completely insane as to stay, but as people passed she avalanched herself the opposite way, stubborn as always. this, though had not been such a good idea, for more fire seemed to occur on the sides. “ dear god, the world is definitely ending. ” she could not believe her eyes and dumbfounded she just stared.

two men were her entertainment of the night. they promised to get the best drinks, the most delicious food and while they indulged on her company. this was no bother to efthimia, knowing far too well how to pull the strings of men. if anything, it was her who would benefit of the night. it was all play and games, until the streets turned dark and screams was all that pierced through her ears. her first reaction had been to raise her eyebrows in pure amusement of what it could have been, but her second, as anyone else had been to plague herself with a hint of fear, just the slightest ––– fear for the unknown. she half ran among the avalanche of people that seemed to crowd the streets when she bumped into someone, head first. “ dear god. ”

         crept its way into the streets, uninvited. ”

the festive night did not seem to slow down, even as midnight approached. the jazz music echoed against the historical buildings, bringing life to an apparent cursed city. the epitome of life crowded the streets, that was, of course, until it was not.

a loud boom resonated, and for a moment, everything came to a halt.

pitch dark, the streets became as fragments of glass and the stench of gas filled the streets. the explosion, brought forth a series of screams, for it came to be unexpected. all music was halted, many trying to comprehend what had just occurred. but to see anything was impossible, only darkness crept the streets. the tumult of people began panicking, for a nearby structure began to catch on fire. children cried, many calling out for their mothers and the murmurs of the crowd began to increase, as other buildings began too, to burn up in flames.

the fall festivities have been interrupted by several explosions of streetlight lamps, affecting in the way nearby wooden buildings. as many scramble to help, some others try to flee the scene. this marks our first plot drop of obscurumhq. this is very much still part of the event, and will last until friday the 16th. pre-plot drop threads may be written to incorporate the plot drop, or wrapped up as new threads are written. enjoy!

There was definitely something mixed in with that drink — for Tommy, never one to deliberately draw attention to himself when it wasn’t necessary, had made it his mission to wedge himself into the center of the dancing crowd as he moved his body to the dynamic sound of jazz. As he turned, he very nearly bumped into another, though he did stop himself in time — he still had his wits about him, he thought, a chuckle escaping his lips. “Sorry, that was close.”

It seemed as though the French Quarter had transformed itself overnight. Music filled the streets, smiles were plastered on people’s faces, and the city itself was lit up more than usual, lamplights seemingly dancing along to the vibrant energy of the crowd. It was indeed a night to be enjoyed, though for Petra, it was also a night to be vigilant, for such a gathering should warrant tighter security — not for the alcohol, there were bigger matters at hand. It was easy to blend in with the festival-goers, easy to have her mood be affected by the general atmosphere, so much so that she turned to the person beside her with a smile. “Enjoying the festivities?”

the music could be heard from about anywhere. every single corner of bourbon street boasted with the ambient of the festivities. this would be a first for her ––– the annual fall festival of the french quarter. it was fascinating to her, how no-maj and wizards alike met in such setting, united for once. of course; they always unbeknownst of it all. a celebration like this she had not experienced in a while, and while alcohol was certainly out of the picture it did not stop her from lying against the column of one of the buildings in pure fascination as she smoked on her cigarette. “ i have never seen the city so alive. ”
