masterlist introduction
Oh boy how did you ever manage to become close to someone as untouchable as Obsidia? This is the woman that stood at the top of the Abyss itself, who fought gods and ruled through strength alone, so naturally she isn't exactly the type to let other people wander into her life so easily. Somehow though, whether through persistence, circumstance, or sheer stubbornness, you ended up slipping through the cracks in that impenetrable exterior.
Obsidia has spent most of her life losing people. Subjects, companions, allies - everyone has either died or betrayed her. So when she first met you, she would've expected you to be temporary as well. Meaning that she was always watching for signs that you would leave. Not because she distrusts you specifically, but that's just how her life is.
Dating Obsidia would not start with a confession. In fact, if you're expecting a confession from her you're going to be waiting for a very long time. She would never announce anything, because, in her mind, there simply isn't anything to announce. Human rituals of carefully asking feelings and putting labels on relationships would probably seem strangely unnecessary to her. One day she would just start to exist by your side, standing near you, walking with you, accompanying you, and eventually you'd have to sit there and wonder at what point did you accidentally become the girlfriend of the Sovereign of the Abyss.
If someone were foolish enough to ask what exactly you are to her, Obsidia would probably stare at them for several moments as though they had asked the most ridiculous question imaginable. Because isn't it obvious that you're her partner? Her chosen one? Is the mere fact that she keeps you by her side not enough?
You know the whole "silent and intimidating" thing she has going on? Yeah that's still there. It's not a facade or anything it's genuinely just a part of her. Obsidia isn't going to magically transform into this overly affectionate sweet lover overnight, even if you ask her to. It's just... not her.
She's not very verbally affectionate. That's putting it mildly because Obsidia is, frankly, terrible at compliments and validation. You could spend an hour telling her how much she means to you, and the best you're probably going to get from her is a simple "I know". It's not like she's ungrateful or doesn't love you... more of she just expects you to know through sheer fact that she hasn't killed you? You might need to teach her... a lot.
But she can be incredibly oblivious at times. Again, she's not one for human culture, so sometimes the things she says casually comes across as unintentionally romantic or absurdly intense. Things like "I just dislike being separated from you" or "I spent centuries believing that there was nothing in this world mattered besides me. I no longer think that". Goddamnit Obsidia give your poor partner's heart a break and stop dropping these lines out of nowhere!
The bones of wrath would probably show more affection than Obsidia herself does. Usually they are terrifying weapons, extensions of death itself, yet they'll shift around you carefully, move things out of your way, wrap around you and guard you like overprotective dogs. It's not like Obsidia minds, but it does get a tad bit annoying when she sees you stroking them with more tenderness than you do her.
She would absolutely develop the habit of keeping you nearby, not in a possessive sense but in a safety sense. Obsidia has spent far too long losing people, and once she values something, she naturally wants it within reach. She'd simply gesture for you to sit beside her during meetings or pull you closer while resting, if only to reassure herself that you are safe within her reach.
She would also be absurdly protective, although not in an overbearing way. Obsidia respects strength too much to smother you or decide things on your behalf, but if someone genuinely tries to hurt you? Oh, that's unfortunate for them. She would just decide that they no longer deserve the privilege of continuing their day peacefully.
Obsidia struggles with receiving care. Giving it? Fine. Receiving it? Absolutely horrible how dare you even bring up that idea in front of her. It's simply strange to her that someone would willingly take care of her when she's weak, because it goes against the very ideals that she embodies. Strong eats weak, dog eats dog. It takes a while before she gets used to it, but the first couple of times you've attempted to offer treatment / comfort she probably thought you've finally decided to assassinate her.
She would be extremely physically comfortable once she accepts you as part of her life. Not shy about it either. If she wants you closer, she'll pull you into her lap. If she wants to rest against you, she'll do it. If she notices you're cold, you're wrapped against her side without having to ask. There is no awkward hesitation behind any of it because Obsidia has never cared much for pretending she doesn't want something.
I think the ultimate show of trust from Obsidia is how she's able to be quiet around you. Not queen Obsidia, not ruler of the abyss Obsidia, not the woman carrying centuries of conflict and bloodshed on her shoulders. Just Obsidia. Someone who can sit beside you in silence, eyes half-closed and dozing off without feeling the need to remain guarded.
end note: i'm ngl i made this a lot more fluffy than i originally planned... if we're going by canon i don't think that obsidia would act like this per se, i think her version of "love" would be less of the traditional love we commonly see and more of a,,, uneasy partnership? she doesn't exactly seem human so affection and tenderness probably wouldn't come naturally to her. so i apologize if that was the sort of writing you wanted! i might actually make a separate post talking about how obsidia would realistically act in a relationship i'm ngl... she's too interesting not to. i'm also really sorry if the hcs seem disconnected.. i was lowk struggling w/ her
end note pt.2: obsidia's voice is so hot and her accent is just. ugh.
