she pauses, a thoughtful expression crossing her features. her head tilts to the side, observing the male as she takes in the inquiry. it’s a bold one, to ask something so personal, something so near and dear to her, something so pivotal in her life. why doesn’t she talk about it? why indeed.
“why would i?” her breathy voice questions. she turns her head to address the male, brows raised curiously. her tongue swipes over her lips, teeth pressing down on her bottom lip. “am i obligated to talk about such a horrid time? if you’d like, i could. what would you like to hear first? the death of my child? my kidnapping? the torment? my turning? how it felt to rip a man’s throat out with my teeth?”
her tone sounds deceptively innocent as opposed to the crude and barbaric events of her life. she blinks steadily, expression not changing from her curiosity. and then a smile tugs at her lips, a whisper of a laugh leaving as she bows her head, pushing strands of her hair behind her ear.
“or would you like to hear about the weather instead?”
Sunggyu doesn’t know what the woman before him is expecting; him to feel pity for her, to tell her he’s sorry for asking, or that he didn’t mean to bring up bad memories? It wasn’t like she was the only one with bad memories, with horrible experiences or holes in their heart that had once been filled with loved ones.
“To be in pain is to exist...” he muttered after a moment, shifting slightly. He wasn’t sure exactly what their conversation was before, how it lead to this. They were in his shop, though night had fallen and the only light illuminating them was hanging on a lamp above them. The yellow light casting a glow upon the two.
“You’re existing was altered, shifted from being one being to another. Mine was fabricated of magic between two beings who ended up growing to hate each other; I was labeled a mistake. I’ve come to terms with that. In their eyes, I was one. I was the product of something they hated. But, I’m my own being now, my choices are mine. Just as your choices are yours... Yes, you are now different...in nearly every way.” he hesitated, not sure if he should push that boundary. They definitely weren’t close enough.
“...But,” he spoke, voice a bit softer, “You’re you. You are able to decide your fate now, no one else. Though things were altered, you have the choice to make the best of it. I’m sure you will, you’re a smart one.”
