Boe had been working on Hill House for a few days now. His wife had died a week earlier and while everyone said he should have taken a few days off, he insisted on not. He thought it’d give him a distraction. Give him something for his mind to do. Between not sleeping and working late hours, he was beginning to think everyone else had been right.
The house, too, seemed to fuck with him. Some days it felt like none of the blue prints matched up. Some days it felt like he’d spent eight hours redoing the same damn thing. He put it on the whole not sleeping thing and carried out his business.
Dropping his hammer into his tool belt, Boe bent down and grabbed his wall meter. As far as he was concerned, the mold had been fixed but every time he held the meter against the wall he blared out. Taking a deep breath, he held it against the wall and exhaled slowly as it didn’t start screaming. “Thank fu-” he suddenly froze, feeling the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. Slowly, he turned around and was met with a woman. “Oh, sorry. I didn’t think anyone else was in the house.”
