Sooo I just came home from my "date" - meaning I finally watched "King's Man" at the cinema.
After waiting so freaking long for that to happen it still feels super unreal!
You can find a lot of squealing but also some spoilers under the cut. So if you haven't watched the film yet.... please don't read any further!!
Okay, this probably won't be a complete review and I will probably miss a lot of things that might come back to me later when I think about this film (and boy will I think about it for a long time!)
The main thing is: It is so much fun! I enjoyed watching the other films of the franchise as well and I was so excited and happy when I read that Ralph would join them. The more I heard about his character, the more I got excited and ... this film delivered! It has got everything in it that I enjoyed about the other two films. The oppulent sets, the over-the-top-amazingly-choreographed-fights, the cheesy lines... the emotions! And of course: The sexy as fuck suits!
I totally forgot who was supposed to be in this film so I did a lot of eternal squealing when people showed up on screen that I forgot about and that I just love watching doing their acting thing! The cast is amazing!!
As are the people who did the costumes and set design! Seriously! I want to send them chocolates and wine and give them so many hugs!!
The Duke's office: Book shelves. Another sexy as fuck desk that just begs to be used as a "fucking surface" and another sexy as fuck set of leather chairs that ask for the same! I mean... the huge painting of the wife would have to go (I was about to say it could move to the dining room but then I thought about all the chairs in there and the beautiful long table and no... it would just have to move into a room in which I wouldn't want to fuck her widower in O.o).
And the suits!!! The leather coat and leather boots! The boxer shorts! The ties! The waistcoats! The glasses!!! Just... it's all so very good and Ralph wears it so beautifully!!! The cuddly jumpers! I had to bite my lip to stop myself from moaning out loud.
And his face! The close ups of his face, his eyes. The little things he does to express Orlando's emotions. The little quirk of his lips when he shows Conrad his secret lair. His smile when he hugs him. His absolute pain. His "don't mess with me" face.... The way his eyes roll back during the scene that equally made my laugh and want to hide my face and also turned me on a bit because: Ralph's face! I seriously can't wait to see this film in English to hear the noises he makes. Plus: Hairy legs!! So nice!
Then the beard! I nearly shouted that one out loud in the middle of the film! Bearded! Ralph! A wet dream come true! I'm so happy I got to see that again. I missed him! I missed the beard so much!!
I also enjoyed the story. Rasputin was ridiculous but: choosing the Dad over the son?! I mean: Totally legit decision! I would lick his thigh too!
Polly! Pollyyyy! I'm a huge fan of Gemma Arterton anyway so I was excited to see her and Ralph together on screen. And they did so well! Their chemistry was palpable from the first time we see them. And the kiss! I did the whole thigh-clench, silent squeal thing again. Polly is bad-ass and I love her. And I love her with the Duke. Move over Mallory/secretary... you got competition now... the Duke and his Nanny are in town! I will probably do some more squealing about them later!
I also loved Shola. So smart. So loyal. So much feeling. The three of them made a great team and i would have loved to watch them for a few hours!
I cried too. For Conrad. And the Duke.
I guessed who the baddie was right from the beginning so that one wasn't a surprise. As soon as he hurt the animals I knew he would have to die.
That all being said (and I will probably say some more at a later point): The true hero of the film is without a doubt: the billy goat! he's awesome!
