The first morning in Italy began unevenly for the group. As always, not everyone rose at the same time.
[First morning in Italy]
Vernon and Minghao were the earliest birds, slipping out of the rooms with the money they asked from Dino and a light shuffle of sneakers on tiled floors. Both of them looked fresh despite the jet lag, lured by the idea of finding breakfast before the others clogged the dining area. Their quiet departure barely stirred the hallway, the two moving with practiced ease like they knew it was best to escape before the chaos of thirteen hungry people erupted.
Hours later, back inside the guesthouse, the dorm-like rooms were waking up one by one. The faint creak of doors, hushed voices, and footsteps down the corridor replaced the silence Vernon and Minghao had left behind.
Luna, however, remained tucked into her sheets. She wasn’t fully out cold anymore, her ears picked up the shuffle of feet, the squeak of hinges, and voices cutting in and out of her room. But her body refused to move.
[She would sleep the whole day if she could]
From what she gathered in her half-dreaming haze, most of the commotion circled around Dino who she shared a room with along with Jun.
Members popped their heads in like customers at a convenience store, one by one, probably asking him for money since he was in charge of it. The sound of zippers and the crisp shuffle of bills passing hands confirmed it. Despite all that, Luna buried deeper into her blanket, hoping no one would think to drag her into the morning rush just yet.
[Dino is popular]
Jun was still absent, likely still washing up and Dino sat perched on his bed, one pouch open in his lap like a little bank teller. Members leaned against the doorframe or stepped inside briefly to ask him for what they needed. Luna, curled up with Cherry the bunny plush hugged against her, stayed stubbornly still.
By the time Jeonghan, Wonwoo, and Seungkwan were about to head out for their own breakfast run, the energy in the room picked up again. Wonwoo adjusted his crossbody bag and checked the time on his phone, while Seungkwan fussed over his hair in the reflection of the mirror outside the room. Jeonghan, freshly washed and dressed, stepped inside the room with the casual air of someone who knew he wouldn’t need to ask twice.
“Dino-ya, give me money,” Jeonghan sang out, holding his hand open like a spoiled child waiting for allowance. His tone was light, playful, but his eyes immediately wandered elsewhere.
[Everyone wants money early in the morning]
His gaze landed on Luna’s bed. She was still there, curled tightly beneath the covers, breathing slow, her hair a little messy against the pillow. Even in her half-sleep, she didn’t stir at his voice, just faintly twitched when the blanket slipped against her cheek. Without thinking much, Jeonghan crossed to her side and crouched down. His fingers lightly traced along her back in a soothing stroke, more a check than a wake-up call.
“I think 100 Euro will be enough,” Dino answered, dutiful as ever. He pulled out a folded bill from the pouch, his expression somewhere between serious banker and youngest brother carrying the weight of responsibility. He handed it over smoothly, like he’d done it a hundred times already this morning.
[He has done this a hundred times already this morning]
Jeonghan accepted the money with a nod. “I will be back.”
“Yes, come back,” Dino replied quickly, though his eyes flickered toward Luna, almost hesitating. “Do you want me to wake noona?” he asked.
[Zzz]
Jeonghan shook his head at once, eyes still on the sleeping figure. “No. She still needs to get ready and such. She doesn’t like being rushed. Just let her sleep in,” he said firmly, then glanced at Dino with meaning. “But don’t leave her, alright? She should wake up soon.”
“Alright, hyung,” Dino said, nodding in understanding.
“Thanks.” Jeonghan’s voice softened as he gave Dino’s shoulder a brief pat before straightening up. With the money tucked safely in hand, he stepped back out into the hallway, Wonwoo and Seungkwan trailing after him, the three of them heading down toward breakfast with the door clicking shut behind them.
[They are off for breakfast]
Inside the room, the faint rhythm of Luna’s breathing filled the space again, Dino now the quiet guardian of both the pouch and his noona’s undisturbed sleep.
A few minutes after Jeonghan, Wonwoo, and Seungkwan slipped out of the their dorm, the room fell quieter. The faint hum of voices from other members drifted from down the hall, but in her bed, Luna stirred. She shifted under the sheets, groaning softly as she turned her face into the pillow. If it wasn’t for the way her stomach twisted in hunger, she would have easily ignored the faint noises and stayed tucked into sleep. But her appetite won out, and after a small struggle, she pushed herself up to sit on her bed.
[And she is finally awake]
Her hair was in complete disarray, sticking out in every direction like static had attacked her. She rubbed her face with both hands, yawning, her voice hoarse from sleep.
[Wakey~ Wakey~]
“Noona, you’re up?” Dino’s voice came gently from across the room. He was sitting at the edge of his bed, looking up from his phone.
Luna looked at him through half-lidded eyes, mumbling something that didn’t quite form a full word. “Mmmhm… I’m… awake.” Her reply came out like a low murmur, her tongue still heavy from sleep.
Dino, somehow, still understood her. He smiled and put the cup down. “You should probably get ready. We’re leaving for breakfast soon.”
Luna groaned again, dragging a hand through her wild bedhead. “Is… everyone… ready?” she muttered, her voice muffled as she stretched her arms.
“Some are still in the process,” Dino told her simply.
Her eyes narrowed a little, still adjusting to the light. “Who’s out?” she asked, her voice more awake now, but still groggy.
“Minghao and Vernon are out by themselves,” Dino explained casually. “Wonwoo, Jeonghan, and Seungkwan went out too.”
Luna let out a slow nod, accepting the update. “Okay…” she muttered, finally tugging her blanket off and sitting properly at the edge of her bed. She pushed herself up with visible effort, reaching for her things. “I’ll… shower real quick.”
Dino leaned back against his chair, watching her shuffle. “Take your time, noona. We’ll wait.”
She gathered the white Nana Tour shirt with her name printed neatly on it, along with her only pair of jeans, and whatever little toiletries she could carry in her arms. She glanced over her shoulder at him, eyes still sleepy but her tone carrying a hint of mischief. “If I ask for money for clothes, will you give it to me?”
[Spoiler Alert: She will be asking this question a lot]
Dino chuckled immediately, shaking his head with a laugh. “You need a whole wardrobe, I already know,” he teased, grinning widely.
Luna couldn’t help but snicker at that, her lips curling into a smile as she shook her head at his bluntness. “I might not survive this trip,” she muttered as she walked to the door.
“I’ll allow a few clothing items, noona!” Dino called after her, his voice following her into the hallway.
She turned back, her smile brighter now. “Thank you, Dino-ya!” she called back before stepping into the bustling common area.
[And she succeeds…]
[She is the maknae’s favorite]
The members were scattered around, each in their own small morning routines. Joshua was carefully folding something by the couch, Hoshi and Dokyeom were brushing their teeth with exaggerated effort at the dining table again, Jun was on his phone by the dining area, and Woozi and Mingyu were nowhere to be found, probably still asleep.
[The last batch to leave]
“Good morning,” Luna greeted as she passed, her voice still carrying traces of sleep.
[Morning!]
“Morning, Luna,” Joshua replied warmly without looking up from the shirt in his hands.
Hoshi grinned around his toothbrush, raising a hand. “Mornin’, Ji-Ji!”
“Morning,” Jun looked up and smiled at her.
“Goooood Mooorninggg!” Dokyeom practically sang out with a mouthful of toothpaste making Luna giggle.
Luna waved lightly at each of them, weaving her way closer to the bathroom. She glanced around at the group, holding her bundle of clothes. “No one’s gonna use the bathroom?” she asked, her tone checking more than demanding. “Can I shower?”
A chorus of voices came almost immediately.
“Go ahead!”
“It’s free!”
“You can use it!”
Satisfied, Luna nodded, her sleepy smile lingering as she finally slipped into the bathroom and shut the door behind her. The sound of water running a moment later marked the start of her morning in Italy.
Once Luna finished getting ready, she stood in front of the mirror of her room, eyeing her reflection carefully.
[Nana Tour uniform]
She smoothed down the front of her white Nana Tour shirt. The shirt hung loose and straight over her frame, falling to her hips and making her look smaller inside all that fabric. She stood before the mirror in their shared lodging’s bedroom, blue jeans snug around her waist, the very same pair she had worn yesterday. The jeans balanced the brightness of the shirt, though Luna tilted her head critically as if the mirror might offer her an alternative.
Her hands moved instinctively, fiddling with the hem. She tugged it once, twice, then pursed her lips. Finally, with a decisive little twist, she folded the shirt halfway up, catching the excess fabric and tying it in a neat knot just above her waist, instantly transforming the plain uniform into a cropped top that looked styled rather than assigned. The knot sat there, sharp and intentional, her waistline cleanly defined. She stared at her reflection, raising one eyebrow with a small smirk at her own handiwork before smoothing the tied edge into place.
[Fashionista Luna]
Satisfied, Luna grabbed her brush, tugging it through her hair until it was neat and straight, then reached for the hairdryer. The low hum filled the quiet pockets between conversations filtering in from the other room. She worked in quietly, carefully guiding the dryer with one hand while combing with the other, her concentration breaking only when laughter rang out from the hall.
From their voices, she could tell the members were still half-scattered, some still fixing themselves, some debating where to go.
By the time Luna unplugged the dryer, her hair fell smooth and soft around her shoulders, a faint shine catching the light. She set everything back in its place and slipped into the hallway, padding into her own room briefly. There, she collected the essentials she’d need for the day: her sunglasses, her cap, her phone, and a couple of little things she never left without.
When she stepped into the dining area, the air was instantly thicker with chatter. All the boys were gathered already, their belongings scattered across the table like the remnants of a small storm. Everyone except for Mingyu and Woozi, of course, they were conspicuously absent, most likely still cocooned in their room with zero plans of moving until dragged out.
[Yes]
[Mingyu and Woozi are still sleeping]
The moment they noticed her entrance, a chorus of teasing began almost in unison.
“Look at her,” Jun remarked first, his tone drawn-out, eyes flicking over her tied-up shirt with mock awe.
“Fashionista,” Hoshi announced dramatically, pointing at her as if she had just walked a runway instead of a dining room.
“Yah, yah, yah,” Dokyeom leaned back in his chair, grinning wide. “She’s always like this.”
Even Dino joined in, snickering as he raised his brows at her. “Noona, what is this? Are you trying to make the rest of us look shabby compared to you?”
[They are compliments… I think?]
[They are]
[She is used to this]
Luna rolled her eyes, unable to stop the chuckle that escaped her. “You guys are so loud this early in the morning.” She slid into an empty seat at the table, placing her sunglasses and cap down as she reached for the small bottle of sunscreen she had brought.
“You should be used to it by now,” Hoshi grinned.
Luna laughed, shaking her head as she squeezed sunscreen into her palm. “I am,” she muttered, dabbing it over her face before smoothing it along her arms.
“Are you really?” Dokyeom said, leaning toward Dino as if asking for backup. Dino only laughed louder, clapping his hands.
“Apparently not,” Luna conceded through her laughter, reaching for her lip balm next.
Their sibling-like bickering continued even as Luna focused on applying her sunscreen properly, shaking her head with little chuckles at each of their exaggerated comments.
In the middle of it all, Joshua leaned across the table toward Dino, who was struggling noisily with a tightly sealed bottle. “Oh, manager, let me open it for you.” He reached out smoothly and popped the cap open with little effort, earning a groan from Dino.
[And it begins…]
“Hyung, seriously…” Dino muttered, embarrassed, but Joshua only grinned before turning back to the group.
“I planned a course,” Joshua said matter-of-factly, his voice directed mostly toward Dino.
[???]
Luna glanced up from the small mirror she was using. “What course?”
“Eat sandwiches, go buy sneakers afterwards, and then eat gelato,” Joshua explained casually, as if it were the perfect itinerary.
[Don’t forget the shoes]
Her brows furrowed playfully. “What’s wrong with your shoes?”
Joshua’s lips quirked into a half-smile. “I bought boots.”
“Aigo-ya…” Luna exhaled dramatically, shaking her head before smirking at him knowingly.
Joshua smirked right back, both of them clearly in the same wavelength.
[Uh oh]
“Let’s go shopping,” Luna declared, pointing a finger at him.
“Exactly,” Joshua said, nodding at her with an approving grin.
Dino groaned at both of them, chuckling. “Noona! Just buy what you need. Don’t get carried away.”
[Sure, sure]
“I know, I know,” Luna replied with a little laugh, smoothing the sunscreen along her arm. “I will.” She chuckled again, exchanging a mischievous giggle with Joshua.
“It would be nice to have one sleeveless shirt…” Dokyeom suddenly interjected, tone wistful. He stretched his hand out toward Luna without hesitation. “Jiyeonie, can I have some sunscreen please?”
She passed him the bottle without a word, watching as he lathered his arms with exaggerated care.
“Oh, it is nice,” Dino agreed, clearly amused.
“You understand, right?” Dokyeom nudged Dino with his elbow, trying to reel him into his plan.
Joshua snorted. “Ah, to be honest, you don’t need a sleeveless shirt.” His teasing grin was sharp, earning laughter from the others.
[Shouldn’t have said that]
“Don’t buy sneakers for him,” Dokyeom said immediately, turning to Dino as though trying to secure an alliance.
Luna laughed outright, covering her mouth.
“Sleeveless are so nice,” Joshua said suddenly, pretending to change sides.
[A change of heart]
That got Dino laughing too, his eyes immediately flicking to Luna for her opinion. “Noona? What about you? Are you gonna say anything?”
[Nope]
“I have no comments whatsoever,” Luna shook her head quickly, hands raised in surrender. She knew better than to meddle when her shopping privileges were on the line.
“I am going to follow the manager no matter what,” Dokyeom said firmly, turning his full loyalty toward Dino.
“We are one team,” Dino replied with a grin, playing along as he extended his hand across the table.
“Of course. We are one team.” Dokyeom grasped his hand dramatically, shaking it like it was a binding agreement.
Luna leaned back in her chair, watching as the two of them continued their antics. She sipped her water, eyebrows raised, while Dokyeom and Joshua began showering Dino with the most over-the-top compliments.
[Doing their best]
“Dino-yah, you’re really handsome, you know that?” Dokyeom said earnestly, nodding as if the statement were obvious.
Joshua joined in immediately. “Seriously. So handsome.”
“Ah, his face when he’s serious,” Dokyeom sighed dreamily, clutching his chest as if he were about to swoon.
“Don’t forget his generosity,” Joshua added smoothly. “He’s so generous. Always willing to help.”
Dino’s laugh turned loud and uncontrollable, his face flushed red as he tried to wave them off, but that only fueled their performance.
[Doing everything for clothes]
Luna finally couldn’t hold back her own laughter, chuckling as she capped her sunscreen and stood. “Suck ups,” she muttered fondly, shaking her head as she padded back toward her room.
[Yup]
A few moments later she returned, this time with Cherry the bunny in her arms, nestled comfortably against her chest as if she had been part of the morning plans all along.
Dino, still half-playing his new “manager” role, tapped his fingers on the table as if counting heads at a roll call. He scanned the dining area where the others lingered, then raised his brows, leaning forward.
“Who’s not here?” he asked, looking at Joshua expectantly.
“Mingyu and Woozi,” Joshua said.
Dino immediately turned his gaze toward Luna, the corners of his lips twitching upward in the way that meant he was about to assign her a task. “Noona, can you wake them up?” he asked, his tone both polite and bossy, the fake authority of the youngest.
Luna’s brows shot up, her lips curling into a half-smile. “Me?” she asked, but Dino only nodded like it was the most natural thing in the world, as though her being the designated “waker” had already been decided unanimously.
[She clearly doesn’t want to do it]
With an exaggerated sigh, Luna pushed herself up from her chair and adjusted Cherry in her arms. “Fine,” she muttered.
She made her way down the hallway, her footsteps muffled by the floor as she passed the closed doors. She knew Mingyu’s was the closest, and sure enough, when she nudged it open, the room was dim, curtains pulled tight to keep out the sunlight. The air was heavy with that warm, sleepy quiet only morning could produce.
[Sleeping beauty is asleep]
On the bed, Mingyu was sprawled out, one arm above his head, hair sticking in a dozen directions. His breathing was slow, steady, his chest rising and falling like a metronome. He looked completely gone, the type of deep sleep only Mingyu could commit to.
Luna padded inside quietly, the corners of her mouth quirking at the sight. She eased herself onto the edge of the bed, careful not to jostle him too much, and sat down beside his massive frame. Gently, she leaned in, placing her head against his arm, her voice soft as she coaxed him.
[That smirk doesn’t mean well]
“Kim Mingyu, we’re about to leave you,” she said with a small laugh, expecting at least a grunt of acknowledgment.
Nothing. Not even the twitch of an eyelid.
[He doesn’t seem to care]
She pulled back slightly, preparing to repeat herself when the door burst wider behind her. Suddenly the room filled with the energy of three intruders: Dokyeom, Joshua, and Hoshi, none of whom seemed to understand the meaning of “gentle wake-up call.”
[They are impatient]
Dokyeom puffed his chest like he’d been waiting his whole life for this moment. “Kim Mingyu! Wake up!” he yelled, the sound so sharp and abrupt that Luna visibly cringed, shoulders hunching as she sat up straighter. She grimaced and glanced at Mingyu’s peaceful face, already feeling bad for him.
[What a way to wake up]
Predictably, Mingyu didn’t move. His patience or his unconsciousness was legendary.
Dokyeom, unsatisfied, repeated himself louder. “Kim Mingyu! Wake up!”
Joshua joined in, tone more polite but still firm, “Kim Mingyu! Wake up!”
Finally, the mountain stirred. Mingyu groaned softly, his brows knitting as he shifted onto his side. His eyes cracked open, unfocused and bleary, his deep voice breaking through the haze of sleep.
[What?]
“Huh?” he said, gaze darting vaguely toward the figures in the room.
Luna chuckled softly at the sight of him, her tone lighter now that he was responding. “Get up, Gyu,” she coaxed, her words carrying a mix of fondness and amusement.
“We need to go,” Joshua added, folding his arms like he’d been waiting for this precise moment.
“You said that you were going to have the sandwich of your life,” Dokyeom reminded him, the declaration dramatic as if it were the deciding factor of the day.
[Food is top priority this morning]
That seemed to do the trick. Mingyu blinked himself awake, finally registering the room around him. He pushed himself up, shoulders squaring as he sat, now shoulder-to-shoulder with Luna. She smiled at him gently, and without a word, he leaned into her, wrapping his arms around her in a half-conscious hug.
[Plop]
It was clumsy, heavy, more like an overgrown dog draping itself on its owner, but Mingyu’s warmth was sincere, his head nuzzling into her shoulder. Still half-asleep, he clung to her stubbornly, making her laugh.
“There’s a sandwich like that?” Hoshi asked, face full of confusion, his head popping up between Joshua and Dokyeom.
“Nearby,” Joshua answered simply.
“There’s a great sandwich place that PD Na knows about,” Dokyeom explained, nodding as though he’d been there himself.
[A two minute walk away]
“Really? I’m hungry already,” Luna said absentmindedly, her voice muffled by the weight of Mingyu still holding onto her.
“Me too,” Hoshi agreed quickly, already turning on his heel toward the door. “I’ll wake up Jinhoonie,” he announced over his shoulder, stepping out with a determined stride.
[Hunger makes them move faster]
Meanwhile, Luna wriggled lightly against Mingyu’s arms, patting him as if to soothe a stubborn child. “Go get dressed,” she told him firmly, her voice still tinged with laughter.
Mingyu groaned in protest, clearly displeased as she managed to slip out of his hold. He watched her move away with half-lidded eyes, lips turning downward in a sleepy pout, but he didn’t argue further. Slowly, he dragged himself up, stretching his long limbs and finally starting to get ready.
One by one, the members regrouped in the living area, sneakers laced and caps pulled low. The chatter grew louder, playful complaints and last-minute checks bouncing off the walls. Mingyu shuffled out, still looking faintly dazed but now properly dressed.
And just like that, with everyone gathered and accounted for, they spilled out the door together, the morning light catching them as they stepped into the day ahead.
[And they are out]
[Finally]
[The last batch of members are off for breakfast]
The morning air of Rome wrapped around them as the eight of them stepped out into the cobbled streets, sunlight cutting in golden slants between the old stone buildings. The city was awake but not hurried; locals ambled past with their dogs, scooters purred softly through side streets, and shopkeepers stood at their doors, sweeping or adjusting their displays. The smell of fresh bread, espresso, and stone warmed by the sun mingled in the breeze. Their sneakers tapped rhythmically against the uneven ground, the chorus of their chatter bouncing from wall to wall.
[Morning in Rome]
Hoshi stretched his arms wide, tilting his face toward the sky like he was greeting the day itself. “The weather is nice,” he said, his voice bright with satisfaction.
[Tiger is happy]
“Right?” Luna said, nodding eagerly, sunglasses perched on her head as her eyes roamed the glowing streets.
“Rome’s morning is nice,” Dokyeom added with conviction, hands tucked into his pockets as he looked around at the passing shops and balconies.
They walked together in a loose line, shoulders bumping and heads turning in all directions, pointing out small details, the painted shutters, the flower boxes, the iron balconies draped in ivy.
Luna slowed when she spotted a row of buildings with faded pastel facades, their windows catching the light just right. Balancing Cherry the plush bunny in her arm, she fished out her phone with the other, carefully framing the picture until she clicked. The soft toy peeked into the frame like a silent travel companion.
[Peek-a-boo]
From behind her, Mingyu chuckled, low and amused, shaking his head as he watched her pose with the plush tucked under her arm. “You really brought that with you,” he said, pointing at Cherry.
[She will be doing so the whole trip]
“I promised Cheollie,” Luna chuckled as she snapped another photo.
[Cherry is Cheollie for this trip]
They reached a corner and crossed the narrow street together, watching carefully for the scooters zipping by. Dokyeom glanced up at the small signs painted above the doors, squinting at one in particular as they reached the opposite sidewalk.
“Is this the place?” he asked, pointing curiously.
“Yes, it’s here,” Joshua confirmed with a nod as they gathered in front of the shop.
[Time to eat breakfast]
The small Italian sub place welcomed them with the warm scent of freshly baked bread and cured meats. As soon as they stepped inside, Luna’s eyes widened. Behind the glass counter lay rows upon rows of ingredients: cured hams glistening in deep reds, pale-pink prosciuttos stacked neatly, cheeses from soft mozzarella to sharp pecorino, baskets of golden focaccia and crusty baguettes, jars of olives, bowls of roasted vegetables glistening with olive oil, and bottles of balsamic vinegar lined like soldiers.
[She is hungry]
She gasped in excitement, stepping closer as if the display itself were a work of art. “Wow, I’m hungry,” Luna said, her voice full of awe.
“Wah,” Dokyeom echoed, eyes widening too, his gasp almost theatrical.
“Wow, it looks so good,” Mingyu said, leaning over to get a closer look at the layers of cheese and meats.
“This is the best sandwich place,” Dokyeom followed immediately, nodding with the confidence of someone who hadn’t even taken a bite yet.
[He hasn’t even tried it yet]
“Bread! It’s this kind of bread,” Mingyu said, pointing at the golden slabs of focaccia behind the glass.
“Wow. What bread is it? Focaccia?” Joshua asked, his curiosity as genuine as the sparkle in his eyes.
“How— How are we supposed to do this?” Dokyeom asked suddenly, looking around at the counter as though the idea of ordering had become a puzzle.
[…]
“You’re supposed to start by greeting them,” Dino said matter-of-factly, straightening his back like he’d rehearsed this role.
“What’s ‘good morning’ in Italian?” Woozi asked, stepping forward curiously.
[Italian lesson]
“Buongiorno,” Dino said, rolling the word carefully on his tongue.
“Dino, go ahead,” Joshua said smoothly, gesturing toward him.
[Tasks the maknae to order]
“So suddenly…” Dino hesitated shyly, his confidence wavering as the staff behind the counter looked at them expectantly.
Before the silence stretched too long, Luna stepped forward with a bright smile. She glanced at the man behind the glass, her voice light and polite. “Buongiorno,” she said warmly.
[Luna orders]
The man’s face lit up as he smiled back. “Buongiorno, bella,” he greeted, his voice rich and cheerful.
The members turned their heads immediately, like meerkats catching a sound.
“What did he say?” Dokyeom asked, eyes darting between Luna and the man.
The staff who had been accompanying them chuckled softly before explaining, “He greeted her good morning and called her beautiful.”
[Beautiful and starving Luna]
“Yah, Jiyeon-ah,” Hoshi said, wide-eyed, “you’re international.”
[Teasing]
Luna peeked out, cheeks warming, but she kept her composure as she turned back to the man. “Grazie,” she said softly, still smiling.
With that, she squared her shoulders and leaned slightly closer to the counter. “We would like to order, please,” she said politely.
“What would you like?” the man asked, nodding patiently.
[Food]
Before she could answer, Joshua’s voice came from behind her shoulder. “Can you recommend us a sandwich?”
“Sandwich?” the man repeated, testing the word in his accent.
“Yes please,” Luna said, nodding encouragingly.
“What kind of bread?” he asked, gesturing toward the baskets lined behind the glass.
“Let’s all go with the same one. The same one,” Hoshi suggested quickly, looking around. Everyone nodded in agreement, knowing the chaos of eight separate orders was best avoided.
[They order the same food a lot during this trip]
“What’s the most popular bread?” Joshua asked the man directly.
“This one,” the man said, pointing at the focaccia Mingyu had admired earlier.
“Okay!” Dokyeom said excitedly, bouncing slightly on his heels.
“Can you make us…” Luna began, trailing off as she turned around to count heads. Her gaze landed on each of them before she turned back with a decisive smile. “Eight sandwiches. You can choose for us,” Luna said.
“I’ll make it with my choosing?” the man asked again to clarify.
[He will take the wheel]
“Yes,” Luna and Joshua said together, their voices overlapping in unison.
“We believe in you,” Joshua told him firmly, giving him a small bow of respect.
“Tell him a lot of meat,” Woozi told Luna and Joshua, his voice dead serious.
“He says a lot of meat please,” Luna translated, her eyes flicking back to the man, who nodded in understanding.
[Protein is important]
“Generally speaking, it’s good if there’s a lot of meat,” Woozi added, folding his arms as though he were imparting wisdom.
The group pressed close to the counter, eyes glued to the man’s hands as he began to work. He sliced the focaccia, its crust crisp and golden, laying them open before stacking layer upon layer of ingredients, prosciutto, mortadella, salami, cheeses that oozed when cut, and glistening roasted peppers.
[Its mouthwatering]
“He’s making different types,” Woozi observed, his tone thoughtful.
“If we get them all, we can share them,” Woozi added, already calculating the strategy.
[Sharing is caring]
“If you look at it, it’s basically Subway,” Hoshi said suddenly, leaning toward the glass with a grin.
“Italian Subway,” Luna said.
From the back corner, Jun suddenly called out, his voice cutting through the background noise.
“Guys, is there anyone who wants yogurt?” Jun asked, his head poking out from the fridge as if he had been buried inside it.
“I should have one,” Dino said quickly, stepping forward, while the rest of them started drifting toward the fridge too, their eyes scanning the rows of drinks stacked neatly in condensation-fogged glass doors.
[They are serious about their food]
“How about white wine?” Joshua asked, standing back with his hands folded casually, head tilted as he studied the labels on the bottles.
“White?” Dokyeom echoed, turning his head sharply, as though Joshua had just suggested something outrageous. “Red is better than white,” Dokyeom told Joshua firmly.
“Red?” Joshua said, his brows furrowing. Then he turned to Luna, who had her phone out, thumbs flying across the screen. “What do you think?” Joshua asked her directly.
Luna looked up from her phone, blinking at them. She shook her head with a small laugh. “It’s too early to drink, Joshie. Choose whatever you want,” Luna said, the corners of her lips curving.
[She is not drinking at 9 in the morning]
[The rest of them will though]
That was the cue for everyone to start deciding on drinks. They gathered closer to the fridge, shifting bottles and cans around. Luna stepped up beside Dino, peeking inside.
“I’ll have sparkling water,” she said, tapping lightly on the glass.
Dino bent down and pulled it out for her, handing it over without hesitation.
“Who wants a cola?” Dino asked, his head still halfway inside the fridge.
“Me!” Dokyeom answered with a grin, his hand shooting up like an eager student in class.
Dino grabbed a couple of sodas, stacking them neatly in his arms before closing the fridge with his hip. “Just buy two… we can buy more if it’s not enough,” Dino said, practical as always.
[The manager is managing well]
By now, they had all clustered around a table, drinks in hand, chatting lightly. Their stomachs growled in unison when, finally, the first sandwiches started coming out from behind the counter. Thick focaccia stuffed with vibrant fillings were placed in front of them one by one.
[Their breakfast for today]
[Ta-da!]
“Did we already pay?” Hoshi asked, blinking in confusion as he stared at the food like it had materialized magically.
[Nope]
“We didn’t,” Luna said, adjusting Cherry in the crook of her arm while eyeing the sandwiches with anticipation.
“Don’t we pay when we leave?” Mingyu said, tilting his head.
“Didn’t he say he was gonna pay now?” Dokyeom asked, jerking his chin toward Dino.
“I think Dino is trying,” Mingyu replied, watching Dino from across the shop as he was stuck at the counter, wallet in hand.
[He’s doing his best]
“Let’s eat when Dino comes,” Luna said firmly, and the guys all nodded in agreement, albeit reluctantly with hungry expressions.
Moments later, Dino returned, balancing the last of the sandwiches in his arms like treasure. He placed them down on the table with a satisfied grin.
“They look really good,” Luna said, leaning over to admire the sight.
[Find someone who would look at you the same way Luna looks at those sandwiches]
Each of them picked up a slice, holding it carefully between their fingers. Jun grinned wide, lifting his own. “Okay, cheers!” he said enthusiastically.
“What is ‘cheers’ in Italian?” Hoshi asked, already raising his sandwich halfway up.
“Salute,” one of the staff members chimed in.
“Salute!” they all echoed in unison, clinking their sandwiches together like wine glasses before taking their first bites.
[Finally]
The reactions were immediate.
“It’s good,” Luna said, her voice muffled slightly through her bite.
“The ham is good,” Dokyeom chimed in, already nodding approvingly.
“The smell of cheese is really good,” Woozi said with a satisfied hum.
“The scent of mozzarella is so good,” Joshua added, almost shocked.
“This is the best sandwich,” Dokyeom declared dramatically, eyes widening.
[The enthusiasm]
“It’s really good! The peppers are good,” Joshua said, pointing to his own sandwich.
“They’re dried tomatoes,” Luna corrected through a chuckle, sipping her sparkling water.
As they continued munching and trading remarks, Mingyu suddenly pulled out his phone, holding it at an angle. “Let’s call Coups-hyung,” he announced, already pressing the FaceTime button.
[Ringing]
“Why?” Seungcheol’s voice came immediately the second he picked up, his tone suspicious.
“What are you doing?” Mingyu asked, adjusting the camera.
“I am dying my hair,” Seungcheol said flatly.
At that, Luna perked up instantly, nearly dropping her sandwich as she squished herself into frame. “Really?” she said, her eyes lighting up. “Can I see?”
And just like that, Seungcheol’s camera flicked on, revealing him mid-process with a cape draped over his shoulders, foil in his hair, and a stylist hovering above him.
[He is dying his hair]
“Wow, he’s really getting his hair dyed,” Mingyu said, moving his phone closer for everyone to see.
“Hyung! I miss you,” Dokyeom said dramatically, leaning close to the phone.
The others chimed in one by one, waving into the camera.
“Hyung, come here already,” Jun said with a grin.
“It feels weird without you,” Joshua added softly.
“Hyung, you should’ve seen the sandwiches,” Woozi muttered while chewing.
“It’s fun here but we’re missing one person,” Hoshi said, exaggerating his pout.
[They miss their leader]
“Is it fun? Is it nice?” Seungcheol asked, watching them all squeeze together on screen.
“Yes. The weather here is so nice,” Dokyeom said before bursting into his rant. “The weather is nice and the sandwiches! This place has the best sandwiches!”
Luna chuckled under her breath, sipping her sparkling water before muttering just loud enough, “Cute.”
“Have you had… wine at 9:30 in the morning?” Mingyu asked suddenly.
“It must be nice,” Seungcheol said, eyebrows raising.
“It has been nice,” Mingyu replied, leaning smugly back.
[Brags]
“Señorita!” Dokyeom suddenly called out toward Seungcheol through the screen.
[???]
“That’s Spanish,” Luna said, shaking her head, which only made Dokyeom double over in laughter.
Then Seungcheol’s voice rang through, a playful edge to it. “Yah! Bae Jiyeon! Do you not miss me?” he teased, noticing she hadn’t said anything directly.
[Bunny gets called out]
The others turned toward Luna only to see her cheeks full of sandwich, stuffing her face as though she hadn’t heard. They all burst into laughter, and Mingyu turned the camera directly at her.
[She’s preparing for hibernation]
“She misses you the most,” Joshua said immediately.
“She hasn’t let go of the stuffed bunny since we left yesterday,” Mingyu added, zooming in on Cherry clutched tightly in her arm.
Luna swallowed quickly, looking up. “Of course I miss you! I’m just busy trying to figure out how I’m going to get Dino to give me more money to buy you stuff,” she said, making Dino laugh as the others joined in.
[Her true intentions comes out]
“Use my card,” Seungcheol told her without missing a beat.
“Use your card to buy you stuff? That seems stupid,” Luna retorted, before leaning closer to the phone and whispering, “I’ll use my card.”
[The card she’s not supposed to have]
The members erupted into laughter at her cheeky rebellion, since both she and Jeonghan had somehow managed to smuggle their cards with them despite being told not to.
“Alright,” Seungcheol laughed, shaking his head.
“Hyung! We’ll go now,” Mingyu said, already shifting the phone back.
“Have fun!” Seungcheol called out just before the screen went black as Mingyu hung up.
[Bye for now!]
The clamor of cutlery and chatter inside the sandwich shop was slowly quieting down as the group finished their meal. Plates were smeared with crumbs, glasses emptied, and wrappers crinkled up into little balls.
[And just like that… it’s gone]
Just then, one of the staff asked, “How much did it come out to?”
Joshua, seated nearest to Dino, turned his head toward him with the question in his voice. “Dino, how much was it?” he asked, his tone gentle but with the faint suspicion that Dino hadn’t actually handled the bill yet.
[Great question]
Dino blinked at him, slightly startled like he’d been caught. “I think… I need to pay afterwards,” he admitted, his words dragging in hesitation.
That earned him an immediate laugh from Dokyeom, a chuckle bubbling up as if he’d been waiting for exactly this. Mingyu, across from him, laughed too, slapping the table once as if Dino had said the funniest thing that day.
“The feeling I got was that I can do it slowly… don’t worry,” Dino explained quickly, shrugging his shoulders and grinning sheepishly.
They only laughed harder at his explanation, teasing without even needing to say much, the whole table buzzing with chuckles at his confident but unconvincing reasoning.
Finally, once Dino went and properly paid, his ears tinged pink from the group’s collective teasing, they began shuffling out the door.
[And they are off to their next stop]
“Grazie!” the shop owner called after them with a warm smile.
“Grazie!” Luna replied back brightly, her voice light and confident, waving as she passed the threshold.
The rest of the members followed in their own way, some waving, some nodding politely.
“Grazie!” they chorused back, slightly off-key but enthusiastic.
Once they were a few steps outside, Mingyu turned his head and asked, “Grazie is ‘thank you’ right?”
“Yes,” Luna and Joshua answered in perfect unison, not missing a beat.
“It means ‘nice,’” Dokyeom insisted confidently, pointing his finger up as if presenting a fact.
[… it does not]
“They said it’s ‘thank you,’” Woozi corrected, shooting him a flat look, unimpressed.
The banter carried with them as they walked, the group spilling into the open street like a noisy parade.
[They started walking aimlessly]
“Oh, the weather is nice!” Hoshi exclaimed, his head tipped back toward the sun, his arms stretching wide as if trying to embrace the entire Roman sky.
“Wow, I’m going to get very sunburned. I’m in trouble,” Mingyu muttered dramatically, squinting at the sun as though it had personally wronged him.
“You didn’t put sunblock on?” Luna asked, her voice colored with disbelief as she reached up to fix the cap on her head. She slipped on her sunglasses smoothly, the very picture of someone prepared.
[The prepared]
“No,” Mingyu admitted with a shake of his head, already resigned to his fate.
[The unprepared]
“There has to be an espresso bar that’s outside,” he added hopefully, scanning their surroundings as though he might manifest one through sheer willpower.
“There it is!” Hoshi pointed suddenly, eyes lighting up.
“That’s the place we passed by yesterday,” Dokyeom chimed in helpfully.
Bounding forward with all the energy of someone who had not just eaten a giant sandwich, he latched onto Luna’s free hand and started swinging it up and down exaggeratedly as they walked. Then, without warning, he began skipping alongside her, nearly dragging her along.
[Someone help her]
Luna burst into laughter immediately, stumbling a step before catching up with his rhythm. “Do you really need coffee? You’re practically pouring out energy,” she said, half laughing, half scolding.
“It’s a beautiful day, Jiyeonie!” Dokyeom declared dramatically, loud enough that passersby glanced over. “It’s a complete difference from last night and morning.”
That only made Luna laugh harder, the two of them skipping their way toward the little café like children on a playground.
As they approached, Hoshi squinted at the sign. “I think we need to ask, ‘Do you have a coffee?’” he suggested, scratching his head like he was solving a difficult problem.
“It’s a café. Of course they have coffee,” Luna deadpanned immediately, her expression perfectly flat.
[Yup]
The sharpness of her answer earned her a playful squish to her cheeks from Hoshi, who leaned in close.
“Smartmouth,” Hoshi teased, his hands tugging her face until she giggled.
From the doorway of the café, music spilled out loudly, a lively tune that filled the street. Dokyeom was instantly swept away by it. Without hesitation, he began moving his shoulders and hips in an exaggerated dance, his feet shuffling as though he were in the middle of a concert stage.
[Fancy steps]
“The song is nice,” Dokyeom said with perfect seriousness, still dancing like his life depended on it.
Before Luna could react, he caught her hand again and spun her around in a playful twirl, as if they were suddenly partners in some spontaneous street performance.
Luna chuckled helplessly, her free hand flying up to cover her face in embarrassment. “People are staring,” she muttered, her laughter spilling out between the words.
[She is embarrassed]
Dokyeom only laughed louder, utterly unbothered, while the rest of the members began bopping their heads in rhythm, casually swaying as they craned their necks toward the menu inside.
[It’s like they’re at a rave]
“I think I’ll get iced coffee,” Hoshi announced decisively.
“I think they won’t have iced coffee,” Luna said immediately, a matter-of-fact certainty in her tone.
“Really?” Hoshi blinked, momentarily thrown.
“Isn’t it all just espressos?” Mingyu asked, still squinting at the menu as if that would magically make English or Korean appear on it.
[Correct]
“Let’s all just get espressos,” Woozi cut in, ever the practical one.
The group hummed in agreement at that, and while the rest searched for a table, pulling chairs out and settling down, Luna and Joshua stepped up to the counter together.
[They are designated to order]
Between Luna’s confidence and Joshua’s steady politeness, the order was placed without a hitch. The members had found themselves scattered around two small tables near the corner.
“I’ve never had an espresso.” Joshua admitted, folding his arms lightly on the table.
“I have.” Luna said, leaning back in her chair with her sunglasses now perched atop her head. She glanced at Joshua with a knowing little grin, like she already anticipated his reaction.
“Me too.” Woozi chimed in from the opposite table without lifting his eyes, his voice flat but interested enough to contribute. Then he tilted his head slightly and added, “But won’t it feel different?”
“I think it will be different.” Joshua agreed, nodding thoughtfully.
Meanwhile, Dokyeom had shoved his chair ridiculously close to Luna’s, pulling out his phone at just the right selfie angle. Luna, always game, leaned in with him. The two grinned, then pulled faces, then suddenly made exaggerated poses as he clicked away. Every now and then she slapped his arm lightly, laughing at how ridiculous he looked, while the rest of the table ignored them with practiced ease.
[2/4 of the 97z are busy]
A few minutes later, Joshua glanced up toward the counter just as a waiter approached with a tray. “The espressos are here, guys,” he announced, watching as the small porcelain cups were set down one by one. The tiny size of them looked comical against their large hands.
“The cups are cute.” Joshua remarked, picking his up carefully.
“The cups are pretty.” Dokyeom added in a singsong voice, his phone now abandoned in favor of his steaming drink.
“You have to add sugar if you want.” Luna said knowingly as she wrapped her hands around hers. She didn’t hesitate, bringing it to her lips, she took a small sip, her face registering the familiar hit of bitterness. Somehow, instead of grimacing, her lips curved. She liked it.
[We found out that Luna likes bitter foods]
“Is it really bitter?” Dokyeom asked, leaning over slightly like he was trying to study her expression.
“Yes.” Luna confirmed with a giggle, her eyes sparkling as she set the cup down. “You should try it without the sugar first.”
Hoshi, sitting at the edge of his chair, sniffed his cup suspiciously before daring to take a sip. The second it hit his tongue, his face contorted so dramatically it sent Luna into a fit of laughter, her hand covering her mouth.
[Tiger doesn’t like it]
“Aigo…” she said through her chuckles, watching him slap his chest as if it would cancel out the bitterness.
“Mmm!” Dino, on the other hand, made a satisfied sound after trying his own.
“Do you need sugar?” Dokyeom asked him, already shaking a packet over his cup.
“I think I need some.” Dino admitted after a moment’s pause, reaching for the sugar jar as Dokyeom burst into laughter.
[Sugar to save the day]
“It’s very bitter for me to taste the coffee.” Dino explained honestly, tearing open packets one after another.
“You guys are adding so much sugar.” Jun observed, amused, watching as Dino, Hoshi, and Dokyeom all piled on packet after packet with zero hesitation.
“That’s basically sugar with a side of espresso.” Luna teased, lifting her cup again and sipping it like it was the easiest thing in the world.
“How are you doing that?” Hoshi asked, still recovering, still making faces even as he stole her unused sugar packets right from the table. His disbelief was comically genuine.
[Culture shock]
“I don’t know.” Luna shrugged, unconcerned, setting her cup down just as her phone began to buzz on the table. She reached for it, the screen lighting up with a name that made her lips curl instantly.
“Hello.” Luna answered, her voice soft but expectant.
“Where are you, my Jiyeonie.” Jeonghan’s smooth voice came through the speaker, instantly pulling a grin from her.
“We are at a café near the dorm. We just finished eating. You?” she asked, twirling the teaspoon between her fingers.
“We are at a store then we’ll be back to the dorm right after.” Jeonghan replied.
She tilted her head, curious. “Why did you call me, Jeongie?”
“So you can choose.” Jeonghan said easily.
“Choose what?” she blinked, her brows furrowing as the boys at her table were laughing as they spoke about the bitter coffee.
“Red or yellow?” Jeonghan asked, as if the context was obvious.
“…What?” Luna’s confusion deepened, her voice rising just slightly.
“I have leftover money from the money Dino gave us. I saw a skirt you’ll like. So what will it be… red or yellow?” Jeonghan explained in the same casual tone one might use when asking what to eat for lunch.
The corner of her mouth twitched. “You’re seriously shopping for me right now?” she asked, biting back laughter as she downed the rest of her espresso in one go. Across the table, Hoshi’s eyes went wide like he had just witnessed black magic, staring at her as if she’d broken the laws of physics.
“Mm. Red or yellow.” Jeonghan said again, unbothered, as though her disbelief was irrelevant.
“Let me see it first.” Luna bargained, leaning on the table with her cheek resting on her palm.
“It’s a surprise.” Jeonghan countered smoothly, his voice light with amusement.
“It better be something wearable and not something stupid.” Luna warned, her chuckle slipping out at the same time, which only made him laugh on the other end.
“You’re not trusting me?” Jeonghan teased.
“I’m scarred from experience.” she shot back, smiling at the memory of past questionable fashion gifts.
“Choose, Nana-ya.” Jeonghan coaxed, his tone playful but insisting.
“It depends on how it looks.” Luna tried again, shaking her head with an exasperated grin.
“It’s a long skirt.” Jeonghan informed her, giving her the faintest hint.
Her smile softened as she sat up straighter. “Then yellow.” she decided finally.
“Okay. I’ll get it for you.” he replied simply, like it was already settled.
“Thank you.” Luna murmured, her voice warm, her smile impossible to hide.
“I’ll see you soon.” Jeonghan said, a hint of fondness slipping through his usual coolness before the line clicked off.
Luna slipped her phone back into her bag, the smile still tugging at her lips. The moment was broken by Mingyu’s voice.
“Let’s go?” he asked, stretching his long legs as he stood.
Everyone nodded in agreement, chairs scraping lightly against the floor.
“Let’s go.” they agreed in unison, gathering themselves as they stepped back out into the Roman sun, the little café fading behind them as they began their walk back to the dorm.
[They head back]
[Time check: 10:30am]
On their way back to the dorm, the sun was warm but not too harsh, a steady late morning breeze following them down the narrow street lined with little shops. Their chatter bounced from one to the other, light and lazy, until Hoshi suddenly stopped in front of a store window, his hand already reaching for Dokyeom’s sleeve.
“Let’s go in,” Hoshi said, his eyes shining as if he had just spotted treasure.
[They decided to shop]
The others followed, some slipping inside without much thought, some wandering toward the shelves immediately while others just browsed casually. The store was cramped, the kind of touristy place that sold everything from scarves to mugs to hats, but that only seemed to excite them more.
Hoshi and Dokyeom beelined to the hats section, practically fighting over a stack of knit bucket hats in soft pastel colors. After a round of exaggerated try-ons in front of the little mirror by the rack, they emerged side by side, matching hats perched on their heads like they were about to debut as a unit.
“How do we look?” Dokyeom asked, tugging at the brim and striking a pose.
“Cute.” Luna answered immediately. She herself had found a rack of shirts and plucked two off, white, simple, but with “I ♡ Italy” plastered across the chest. One was regular adult size, and the other was comically small, clearly for children. She grabbed a canvas tote bag along the way, slinging it on her shoulder as if testing its fit.
[Has taken what she wanted]
“I need a cap,” Mingyu muttered to himself, wandering over to the hats with his massive frame bending down awkwardly to pick through them.
Jun appeared a few feet away with a backpack already slung over his shoulder, looking proud of his practicality. “For my things,” he said simply, adjusting the strap.
[Everyone is shopping]
At the cashier line, Dokyeom and Hoshi lined up side by side, hats still on their heads, arms full of trinkets. “Manager, can you buy us these things?” Dokyeom turned with a grin, shoving the items toward Dino.
“Of course, you need them,” Dino said, playing along with a firm nod, as if these hats were essential survival gear.
[Their generous manager]
“Are you not getting anything, Channie?” Luna asked, tilting her head at him before continuing, “It’s hot. Get a hat.”
“Manager, buy yourself a hat too!” Dokyeom jumped in again, as if he were the only one who truly understood Dino’s needs. They picked up a green bucket hat and plopped it into his hands. Dino blinked, resigned but amused.
[Perfect]
As they shuffled closer to the cashier, Dino glanced at Luna’s hands. She was holding both “I ♡ Italy” shirts folded against her chest. “This is the same shirt, noona,” he pointed out, raising a brow.
“The other one is Jeonghannie’s,” Luna said matter-of-factly, earning a nod of understanding from him.
Joshua, however, wasn’t as easily convinced. He picked up the smaller shirt between his fingers, frowning. “This is for kids, Luna.”
“It’s a large for kids,” she countered without missing a beat.
The others eyed her skeptically until she shrugged, amused. “It will be cropped on me.”
“Ahhh,” they all chorused in realization, like a group of students being educated on the spot.
“Smart,” Mingyu admitted with a nod of approval.
“It’s half the price too,” Luna added proudly, which made the boys chuckle and shake their heads at her logic.
[Fashionable and financially smart]
Once everything was paid for, they spilled back out onto the cobblestone street, their new purchases swinging in plastic bags.
“Gelato!” Dokyeom suddenly shouted, waving enthusiastically at the cashier they’d just left behind.
[Is he hungry again?]
[???]
“What?” Luna turned to him, her face frozen in disbelief before it cracked into hilarity.
“Oh, it’s not gelato. What was it?” Dokyeom scratched his head.
“Grazie,” Luna supplied quickly, finally catching on to what he was trying to say.
Dino burst out laughing, clutching his stomach. Dokyeom was already laughing at himself, face pink. “Just saying whatever comes to mind,” Dino teased him.
“I’m so embarrassed,” Dokyeom groaned, covering his mouth as they walked away, still shaking with laughter.
By the time they reached the dorm, their laughter had softened into small giggles and quiet chatter. Outside the building, PD Na and the rest of the staff were already waiting, cameras resting at their sides, their bus up front ready to take them to the next destination.
“What’s your shoe size?” Joshua asked immediately the moment he spotted PD Na, like it was urgent business.
[An important question]
Luna burst into laughter, covering her mouth as she headed inside the dorm. “He’s gonna make them change shoes,” she giggled to herself, shaking her head.
Inside, the dorm was buzzing. The rest of the members, the ones who had left earlier, were already there. Some were lounging around and others folding the little clothes they have quickly. They were only supposed to stay in this dorm for one night before moving to a bigger one, which explained the sudden packing chaos.
[Busy SEVENTEEN]
Luna’s eyes swept over the scene until they landed on Jeonghan, perched casually on his bed with his phone in hand. The moment he saw her walk in, his lips curled into a small smile, the kind of smile that was more acknowledgment than expression, soft and easy.
“You’re back,” he said, his voice low but warm.
“Yeah,” Luna grinned, walking over before pulling one of the shirts out of her tote and holding it out to him. “I got you this.”
Jeonghan looked at it, amusement flickering in his eyes as he recognized the matching “I ♡ Italy” print on the other shirt she obviously got for herself. He chuckled, taking it from her hand. “We match now?”
“Obviously.”
“Thank you,” he said, folding it neatly before slipping it into the black bag they had won the night before during the first game. The bag sat at the foot of his bed, already half-packed.
[He is packed and ready]
Then, as if remembering, Jeonghan reached beside him and pulled something out. “Here,” he said, holding it up.
[They are exchanging gifts as if it’s Christmas]
Luna’s eyes widened when she saw it, a pastel yellow skirt, long and flowy, the kind that could catch the breeze perfectly. She squealed, clapping her hands together before grabbing it carefully.
“You actually got it!” she laughed, pressing the fabric against herself and twirling just slightly.
[Happiness is overflowing out of her]
“Of course. You wanted it,” Jeonghan replied simply, leaning back on his hands with a grin.
“It’s so pretty. Thank you, Han,” she said, her voice genuine, eyes glowing as she admired it.
Before Jeonghan could reply, Seungkwan’s voice cut through the room like a megaphone. “There is favoritism happening in here! I repeat, there is unfair favoritism happening in here!”
[Glare]
Neither Jeonghan nor Luna even looked at him. They both stayed exactly where they were, her admiring the skirt, him smiling at her amusement as if Seungkwan’s announcement had been background noise.
[They couldn’t care less]
A moment later, Luna stood, carefully folding the skirt back into her tote. “I need to pack,” she said, giving Jeonghan one last smile before walking back to her own room.
Once inside, she pulled her tote onto the bed and began organizing her things. The new skirt and the matching shirt went in first, followed by Cherry, her little plush, tucked safely at the side. She added her charger and the small amenity pouch they had gotten from the plane.
[That’s all she has]
“I should have bought a bag,” Dino muttered from his own bed, eyeing her tote with envy.
“Jun hyung and noona are smart,” he admitted, since only Jun and Luna had thought ahead to buy bags. Jeonghan had claimed the game-won black bag for himself, leaving the rest empty-handed.
Around them, chaos ensued. The others were scrambling to improvise, stuffing clothes into makeshift bags. Some were using their jackets as slings, knotting the sleeves together, while Mingyu proudly tried to pack his things into a large towel.
“I don’t think you’re allowed to take that with you,” Joshua reminded him, his voice firm but tinged with laughter.
Mingyu groaned, already unrolling it as the rest of them cracked up around him.
[He had a “bag”]
[Now he doesn’t]
Luna had sprawled herself across Seungkwan’s bed, her head propped up on her arm while her other hand scrolled lazily through her phone. Seungkwan’s bed was right next to Jeonghan’s, so naturally she had claimed the spot to lounge, kicking her feet lightly in the air as the room buzzed with the noise of members packing, joking, and shoving random things into their makeshift “bags.”
From where she lay, Luna’s eyes wandered toward the window, and what she saw made her sit upright almost immediately.
[What is that?]
Outside, Joshua was walking toward the dorm looking like the poster boy for “resourceful but tragic.” He had turned his jean jacket into a makeshift sack, the sleeves tied tightly around the bundle of clothes stuffed inside, slung across his shoulder like some cartoon traveler. Right behind him came Hoshi, whose situation was somehow worse… his hoodie had been tied around his waist but swollen to the size of a massive fanny pack, bulging with all of his belongings. The sheer seriousness on his face as he adjusted the straps made it even funnier.
[What is happening?]
And then came Mingyu. Tall, broad, and struggling, carrying his pile of things stacked in his arms like a frazzled college student moving out of his dorm. His phone wobbled dangerously at the top of the pile, and he kept bending down slightly to balance it before it fell.
[This is hilariously sad…]
[PD Na has them looking like this]
The sight was too much. Luna doubled over, laughing so hard she slapped Seungkwan’s blanket. “Aigo-ya…” she managed between her laughter, pushing herself upright again. She cupped her hand around her mouth and called out as Mingyu stumbled in through the doorway, “Gyu, do you wanna put some of your stuff in my bag?” Her voice carried a teasing tone, but she was still chuckling at the absurdity of it all.
[Says the one with a bag]
Mingyu looked up hopefully, nodding with wide eyes, clearly seconds away from handing over half his stack. But before he could even take a step closer, Jeonghan, who had been leaning back against the headboard watching this unfold with a smirk, sat up sharply.
“No,” Jeonghan interjected, his voice calm but decisive. He swung his legs over the side of the bed, his tone carrying that unbothered authority only he could pull off. “We’ll buy bags instead.” His gaze slid over to Mingyu, unimpressed, as if to say he wasn’t about to let his girlfriend be turned into everyone’s pack mule.
[Great idea!]
[Why haven’t they thought of that before?]
Luna glanced at him with her lips pursed in an amused smile, her eyes glinting knowingly.
Without another word, Jeonghan stood, brushing off his pants, and walked out of the room. The others glanced up curiously as he passed, and sure enough, they could hear his voice outside a moment later, most likely talking to Dino about money.
Within minutes, Jeonghan reappeared at the doorway with Jun and Dino trailing behind him. “Let’s go,” he said simply, jerking his chin toward the hallway. The three of them disappeared out the front door, and the dorm filled with chatter and chaos once again while they waited.
[They are off to buy bags]
It wasn’t long before the trio returned, each holding multiple plain tote bags in their hands. The room erupted instantly as the members rushed forward to claim them.
“Good job,” Joshua praised immediately, relieved to finally retire his poor jean jacket contraption as he transferred his things into one of the bags.
“They’re cheap, right?” Woozi asked, ever the practical one, as he tugged on the strap of his own bag to test its strength.
“It was cheap,” Jeonghan replied casually, tossing one near Mingyu, who caught it with a grateful grin.
Luna, who had been watching quietly from the side, leaned back with a chuckle. “He probably bargained hard to make it cheap,” she said knowingly, her tone teasing but affectionate.
[Yup! Right you are!]
Jeonghan’s lips curved into that infamous sly smirk, the one that always gave him away. Without missing a beat, he walked past her, pinching her side lightly as if in wordless confirmation that she was absolutely right. Luna squeaked and laughed, swatting at him but still grinning.
Soon enough, the dorm was filled with the sound of fabric rustling and bags being packed properly this time. Members who had been resigned to their ridiculous makeshift contraptions now looked much more at ease as they slung the tote bags over their shoulders.
[And they are finally ready]
By the time they finished, PD Na’s voice boomed from outside the dorm. “Let’s go!”
“Let’s go!” the members chorused back in unison, some more enthusiastic than others, as they began filing out of the dorm with their new bags.
The bus was waiting, the staff ready, and the next adventure was just ahead.
