Wait wait wait, the Corries have a HERB GARDEN? Ooooo
Yeah they do.
It’s not huge and it’s not that sophisticated, but they managed to get some boxes and some soil and some cuttings and they tried to grow some flavour for their base.
It didn’t go fantastically at first. With no natural light inside the base and they had too many concerned to leave the little pots out on the landing padd.
But with a scavenged UV light they managed to solve the light issue and with practice they worked out how much water their little plans needed. Some of their friends on the lower levels were happy to offer some of their own herb cuttings for them to start growing and they got Fox’s permission to turn one of the meeting rooms into their little garden once they started growing more than a few little pots worth of herbs. They had issues with power outages cutting their heat and lights before but usually they don’t last long enough to damage the plants and they have to focus on other things.
The herbs don’t really help with the nutricubes, but they make the mush much more tolerable, and several of the things they grow Fix commandeered to make drinks out of. Teas for sleep (“drink it Fox you menace”), warm drinks for vode out of the icebox and just flavoured drinks for relaxing that were not plain water or bitter caff.
Reef is one of the vode who helps look after it and she’s been a part of the little project since the start. Also helping are Tundra, Squash, Toast, Bubble, Pup and Kepi as founders and anyone who wants to help a volunteers. To make sure it keeps going. Along with herbs they’ve also started growing a few other things, or at least trying to. Some of their attempts were total failures, due to temperature or watering or the wrong soil, but they ended up with some good smelling flowers and herbs and flavour in their food and while some vode like de-stressing in the rec room or the side room in the med bay or any of the other soft quiet places they’d set out, Reef and a few others like the quiet fragrant herb garden to relax.
