Oof, I was hoping he would be saved for last. Oh well, the wheel landed on his name, anyways. Here we go!
Biography/lore:
Donovan used to be a human before he turned into what he is now. He was shy, reserved, not very talkative and was never much of a people person in general. He didn't hate people (at least not yet), Donovan just valued his alone time over having company because he thought making friends was such a huge waste of his time.
When Donovan turned 23, he wouldn't have predicted that his life would turn upside down in the most bizarre way. He got kidnapped by a cruel scientist and he trapped Donovan in a basement underneath an abandoned warehouse where no one would think to search for him or hear him scream in pain.
Donovan didn't understand why this strange man specifically targeted him, but he does know that he hated how he treated him like his personal lab rat. Donovan felt like this lowly rodent that's not worthy of a slither of basic respect.
He begged, he whined, he cried for his freedom. He even made a threat to go to the police, but the scientist just mockingly laughed at his boldness, saying that nobody cares about Donovan in the slightest to help him. He went as far as saying that they'll shoot him dead like a rabid animal the moment he reaches out for help. Donovan knew the scientist was right, but still hated that feeling.
The scientist then would put strange substances in his body that made him felt off. Donovan felt his body change and it ever did agonizingly so. By the time 3 weeks passed, he was no longer human. No, he was something else beyond human comprehension.
Donovan was disgusted at his new body and more importantly, he was angry at the scientist for making him suffer for so long. The scientist treated Donovan like a savage animal that he purposely turned him into.
Because of that, he found a way to trick the scientist into letting him out of his chained imprisonment and killing him when the moment was right. Like that, Donovan finally escaped his warehouse prison after 3 long weeks, though it felt like an eternity.
Now a hideous monstrosity standing at 7 feet tall, people took one good look at Donovan and fled in fear without considering the fact that he wasn't going to harm them in any way. In fact, he was more scared of them than they are of him.
People didn't care that Donovan was just a tortured soul trying to live in a body that causes him joint point. They didn't feel safe with a creature like him living on the same planet, so like acting like the stereotype on TV, human military and even police officers constantly tracked him down and tried to shoot him dead.
Donovan realized very quick that what the scientist said really was true about how humans are not very understanding and sympathetic when it comes to nonhumans. Soon enough, he was tired of the constant mistreatment and hunting him down. He felt like the entire world was against him for just existing.
What Donovan didn't know is that he actually gained a few powers in his new form; super strength, increased speed, and tough skin. Donovan used them to an advanced and took down anyone who tried to hurt him. That just made humanity hate him even more.
Well, that's okay because he hates humanity just as much as they hate him. 3 years passed and Donovan finally learned how to transcend to another dimension and made it his own after training his powers. He even gained followers of his own that respected his ways.
That's how Donovan Ulysses Hornell became a powerful lord of the HornVeils. He's not only strong, but strategic as well. So you better stay out of his way and try to avoid his followers the best you can if you want to keep your head on your shoulders.
Guys, I know his redesign looks goofy rather than scary. I'm working on my artstyle, okay? 😭 Please no judgement. :(
