“Deven you really need to change, that get up is way to formal for this.”
“What do you mean?” Deven looked down at himself, he really didn’t get what Primrose meant by that. Was it the dress shirt and the vest? Or both of those with the dress slacks? This interview had cameras, he wanted to look good, how is this too formal?
“I mean you look like a waiter. At least change into a patterned shirt or something dude.”
“Fine, fine.” Deven stepped back into his walk in closet, shutting the door behind him. He shared the closet with his wife Helena, but none the less half of the clothes inside were his own, so he really never ran out of options. He unbuttoned his vest and dress shirt, dropping them to the floor and starting to finger through the hangers of shirts. He pulled out a dark brown shirt with black lacing on the collar and sleeve cuffs. He held it up in front of himself and looked in the mirror, approving of the total look he pulled it off the hanger and unbuttoned it. Pulling it on he saw his chest scars disappear behind the fabric, French tucking the top into his pants.
It always felt nice to smooth down his shirts, just appreciating himself and his body in little ways. It was nice to like how he looked, even on his bad days, it felt better. He stepped back out of the closet with some flair, showing off his change of attire.
“You still look way to dressed up for this, it’s a fucking radio interview, no one will see you.”
“Yes, that is true, but when I hear it later a want to know the interviewer though I looked hot.”
“They always fucking do! You’re the hot one!”
“No that’s Helena. I’m her arm candy.”

Fantasy
Katie sat with her feet and tail in the cool stream, the water carrying leaves and bugs down the mountain side. Her clawed hands lazily pulled at grass and dirt on the riverbed, and the scales all across her body reflected the sun light.
The dragon woman was bored beyond belief as the days ticked by. She had nothing to do, each day was the same. She would slink around her cave, check for any traps, which coincidentally hadn’t been set in months, and then go to the river to sit for the rest of the day until the sun went down. She would then go hunt some animal down to eat and go back to her cave to sleep, guarding practically nothing but the little gold she had for as long as she could remember.
She wanted to anything else, she had no reason to protect that cave, and her memory didn’t even say why she did to begin with. She could understand why the humans wanted to hurt her, she was scary and they didn’t want her to attack them, but the fact she got why they were scared made her even more confused. Knights didn’t come to kill her all the time, for the most part they all left her alone, she was coming down to them, and they were sacred of her ‘coming to attack’. Katie just wanted to do something, anything, just for once.
Primrose had heard about the cursed girl in the mountains so far away, and she made the trip as quickly as she could. She climbed the mountain paths, unkempt and untrodden, and came upon the caves mouth just as the sun was going down. The sunset framed the approach of the large, spiked, dragon girl, who towered over her. Once Katie saw her, she stopped in her tracks and bared her teeth.
“Don’t worry.” Primrose spoke, “I am not here to hurt you. I have heard of you from far away, and I am here to help. I understand you no longer remember before the curse was placed onto you, who you use to be. But do you remember hearing the story of sleeping beauty?”
Sunset
“Kate you should come in soon. It’ll be cold as hell out her once the suns gone down.”
“But that’s what I’m waiting for.” Katie had brought back out two of their summer fold out chairs, and she had been trying to get Primrose to join her outside. The early November wind cut right through her jacket and she was holding her coffee like a life line, but Katie was not going inside until she had seen the sunset with her wife. They used to do this all the time, watching the sunset was their thing, the perfect way to end a date night, or any night really. But everything was so busy nowadays, they seemed to get home and fall asleep the second their shoes came off. Katie realised how long it had really been when the sunrise almost blinded her this morning, and the whole day she had been trying to get Prim to join her. Now as the sun was getting close to the horizon, just about to start passing under, Prim had disappeared from the patio door entirely.
Katie sat alone in the still quiet, the colour of the sky starting to change. No one else in the town, hell, in the whole province, would be stupid enough to just sit outside in this cold. She sighed to herself and the steam from her breath rose up. she shuffled in her seat, brining some feeling to her sleeping legs, but as she went to stand up the patio door slid open. Katie looked up at Prim right as a tuke was shoved onto her head, Prims gloved hands pulling it down over her ears.
“You’re going to freeze out here in that.” Prim smiled at her, “We’ll watch it go down but the second it’s under we go in.”
“I’ll stay warmer if we cuddle to share the heat. And I know you’re hot enough to spare a little for me.”
“Your flirting is just as bad as the day we met, sticking to the classics huh cowgirl.”
“You know you love it.” Katie looped her arm around Prims waist.
“I love you.” Katie pulled Primrose down into her lap at that, the colours of the sky shifting darker and lighter all at once while they snuggled together.
Nature
Primrose was shivering, her fingers had started to turn numb, and there was frost hanging off of her eyelashes, but the shoveling was done. For now. The snow was expected to last another few hours, but it was always easier to shovel 10cm of snow than the 20cm they were expected to total around. She even went to the end and cleared their section of sidewalk so that the plows would push less in later. She slipped her way back down the driveway, banged her shoes against the porch, dropped the shovel beside the door, and quickly came inside.
Inside the trailer home was perfectly warm, and stepping out of the mud room, Primroses fuzzy socks padded along the hardwood floor. The whole place smelled like hot chocolate the second she walked in, the kettle having just been poured into both hers and Katies mugs. No marshmallows at the moment, they had been sold out when they did grocery shopping, but they had scored mint cocoa as a treat. There were gingerbread house remains on a decorative plate, both girls decided it would get eaten faster if already destroyed. They hadn’t managed to get up many Christmas decorations this year, but the cozy blankets they got out were just perfect.
Katie picked up both mugs, white with snowmen on the sides, and kisses Primrose on the cheek. “God, you’re colder than ice. You should have come in to take a break.” She handed Primrose her mug and they both moved to the couch. Curling together under a blanket Katie continued. “Just because it needs to get done doesn’t mean you have to do it in a straight away. You should have come in to warm up, or at least worn a hoodie under that coat.”
“Kate I would have died wearing that many layers.”
“You would not, you would be further away from frost bite if you had. Honestly your skin is not thicker than mine, and I know I would be shaking like a leaf.”
“Yes but you were built for the farm heat, I would die working out in the summer like you do. I happen to know a thing or two about snow that you, my sweet lily, would not understand.”
“Is that knowledge why you fell on your ass halfway up the drive?” Primrose gave Katie a shove at that comment, the two girls laughing it off and wrapping their legs over each other. Cuddling close on the couch, Katie shared her natural warmth while the snow continued to fall outside.
