My latest Artfight attack, for @opal-owl-flight ! Two different versions of Neo Agent 3 goofing around together. Ramune is distraught.

Ngl I have always loved Opal's Inkfish designs, and it was fun to adapt Veronika to my own version, even if in the actual piece she looks quite similar to the original. I messed around in traditional to figure her out, have those doodles as a bonus :)

(bonus fact: I do not have a fur brush. I did those lines by hand. Ouch, but worth it)

Once-in-a-blue-moon event of Wawe actually making a reference sheet. This is Ramune, my beloved girl, neo agent 3 and main character of my fanfic Sandtides.

She's a fairly odd creature, but good-natured and always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needs it. They're also an experienced scavenger with years of experience exploring the desert- Climbing is her specialty, she can and will crawl into and on top of anything if it may hold something valuable. "Scavenger" is a common job in the Splatlands, actually: Lots of valuable things hide in the desert's ruins. Deep Cut are basically scavengers too, they just call themselves "bandits" to sound flashier.

A quick explanation of some features of my Inkfish, featuring Tyler and Ramune!

Inkfish have a notably high level of convergent evolution. Octopi and squids were already relatively close on the tree of life, but being exposed to the same influence of liquid crystals driving their evolution made them extremely similar at first glance. The differences are notable, though, and reveal clearly which species evolved from where.

For starters, one of the most well-known differences is the number of limbs, where Inklings have ten and Octolings have eight. There's also the amount of body surface the "mantle" section of the skin covers: Whereas Octolings only have covering of the upper half of their back and the top of their shoulders, for Inklings the entire back is covered and the top of the arms down to the tips of their fingers.

Sucker placement is also different: Inklings use them primarily to grab and hold onto things, so keeping the suckers on the underside was advantageous, along with a wide variety of sucker dentition. Tyler presents some nasty hooks on his, which aren't that common in Inkopolis. Octolings, meanwhile, have a ton of sensory organs on their suckers, which incentivices keeping them on easy reach- That caused them to migrate to the top of their tentacles, although when taking swim form they return to the white underside. Octoling suckers have no dentition at all, so they won't hurt nearly as much, but in exchange the suction force of their cups is far greater.

Inkfish don't have traditional noses. Instead, the organ protruding from their face is called the compass organ, and is remarkably similar in both species. It senses magnetic fields and has a primary function in Inkfish orientation and sense of direction. Their actual "noses", so to speak, are their siphons: Octolings' are mobile and very prominent, resembling mammalian ears on the sides of the head. A complex and sponge-like web of tissue filters the air a it passes through, all of which can be contracted into the walls of the siphon if need be to expel a shot of ink: A gesture regarded as extremely rude. Inkling siphons are immobile and on the sides of the neck, and although they cannot aim like Octolings can, the shots can have much higher pressure behind them.

Both Inklings and Octolings use colors for aposematic ("threat") display. The tips of the tentacles become much more saturated, spots and/or rings appear, Octoling papillae rise up to create a bumpy texture and Inkling suckers show their dentition. This ,along with general tensing of the tentacle muscles to create a bigger profile, helps to create the "you're about to catch these limbs" look.
