Rene's the 'big bad' of my story, Broken Masquerade. Or, as Box puts it: evil scientist that should be in jail or dead.

Gonna try and make this as spoiler free as possible.

His DNA is 100% human. Or at least he started out human. He's made many modifications over the centuries to prolong his life, including cryogenic sleep and adopting a vampire diet

Rene is not his real name. It's short for Renegade; he's used many aliases over the years, but only a select few know his real name

Since he lived prior to the All-Saints War, he's a human capable of casting magic (specializing in healing among others)

He's a scientist and frustrated with how limiting human perception is.

His life's work is to see the evolution of mankind to a higher plan of enlightenment and existence. He's more than willing to use himself as a guinea pig

He's responsible for both Lili's capture/experimentation as well as her eventual death

He didn't start the war that destroyed the world, he simply created the ammunition for the 'guns' that were fired

He may appear charismatic and gentle, but he's really a manipulative bastard willing to play the long game
