Saw the other ask, so I wanted to ask something aswell. When more professional artists(like you) say they practice, what exactly do you mean? Like what are considered the basics? (I'm so sorry if this is a silly question) If you could share resources even if it's just a few youtube links, it'd help! Unfortunately a self taught artist here. Love the dnp arts

what i mean when i say practicing the basics i mean i started with practicing anatomy, gesture drawing and composition, and if u like painting then color theory is also a must.

i actually started w youtube tutorials when i decided i wanted to take making art seriously way back when

i found the prokotv channel and that taught me a lot abt basic anatomy, ovbiously it's not the same as having a teacher actually see and correct your drawings in person but for starting out its great.

i've also found that copying is super good practice for stuff so i would just browse pinterest, find reference pics and fill a full page of just one thing (like hands, feet or even facial features like noses and eyes) that way u get used to the lines that make up that feature. u can also use yourself as reference by taking pictures or drawing in front of a mirror and using that as reference.

something we did in my drawing class was make still life drawings of geometric shapes (we literally made little boxes, cones, piramids and a sphere out of paper) that way u practice shading, composition and perspective that can be applied to more complex things. (I don't have pics of any of the drawings i did for this drawing excercise sorry if it just uninteligible T_T)

for color theory its a bit more complicated since there's a lot of diferent materials and stuff to paint, still it was kind of more of the same starting out by painting in black and white to get the hang of light values and slowly adding colors by using diffefent color palettes (monochromatic, dichromatic, etc) i say a lot of painting practice is training your eye to see the nuances in the shapes you paint but that also comes w a looot of practice.

i don't have any specific youtube links bc i just don't remember what videos helped me since it was quite a while ago i started drawing, but yeah the proko channel has a ton of videos on all i touched on here.

I love your artstyle it's so cute 🤗🤗. But I was wondering if you could give some tip of how to get better at digital art? I'm new to drawing digitally, so some help will be great!

I'm so sorry I took 100 million years to respond to this, and I know I'm going to sound cliche but truly the best way to get better is to just draw a TON.

Find artists you like and pinpoint specific things that draw you to that style, is it the rough textures in the coloring, is it smooth 3D shapes, is it the detailed layered background, and find ways to incorporate that into your art. I really like doing studies of different styles and experimenting with different tools and techniques that you can't really do with traditional art like adding a glow layer or turning everything to grey scale to see your values.

In the end as long as you are having fun, that's what matters.

What drawing tablets are people using in this day and age?

Last ones I bought had the following issues:

-first one had to be plugged into the PC AND directly into an outlet, I’m okay with plugging into the PC but external power source is not something I want

-Samsung tablet: mostly just the screen size is too small, but also very short battery life

Looking for recommendations for something that:

-does not have to be plugged into an outlet

-screen is larger than a standard tablet

ARE YOU TIRED OF DRAWING CHARACTERS WITH POO SMEARED ON THEIR FACE INSTEAD OF FLUFFY SCRUFFY BEARDS? WELL TODAY IS YOUR LUCKY DAY! WELCOME TO: HOW TO BEARD YOUR BLORBOS!

Step one: BALD

Complete your drawing of your blorbo!

Step two: COLOR AND BRUSHES

Be sure to select the darkest part of their hair (ideally should match the shade of the eyebrows) and select a texture brush of your choosing. Any will do, as long as grain is visible! An additional textured blending brush to buff out any hard lines is beneficial, but not necessary for a good beard. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT USE A SMOOTH BLENDING BRUSH! The goal is to maintain grain!

Step three: BEARD LAYOUT

DO use a reference image for this step! Draw out the general shape of where your blorbo's beard naturally grows, making sure to leave space around the chin under the lip where patches of hair are typically absent. Once you lay out the shape, turn the opacity down between 20-30%. I personally aim around 24%. This is a base layer, so don't go too dark!

Step four: SECOND LAYER

With the same brush and color, add additional layers ONLY in the areas that have the most hair (as circled in red) on your reference image. Mess around with the opacity until it gives you the look you want. The darker the color, the thicker the hair in that area will seem. NOTE: blond beards are typically much less noticeable than darker colors, typically because the hair has less contrast against the skin tone.

Step five (optional, depends on your style): HAIRS

Using the same brush as your line art with the opacity lowered to 60%, draw out lines along the same general shape as the beard using the same color you've been using. They should be slightly curved along the jaw like contour lines; this helps prevent the chin from feeling flat, but that's more of a personal preference/stylistic choice of mine. Don't think too hard on this step. The lines should be laid down quick and loose as beards are typically scruffy!

Ngl I've been really insecure about my art recently. This is like my third time fully redrawing one of my redesigns and my umpteenth time of changing small, tiny, little details that I don't think anyone would care about. :/

It's really annoying because that's one of the things stopping me from posting my favorite queers. 😔
