I don't think I've ever posted this oc here, but... have these
Visual Dictionary Entry: A'ekir
or should I say inspired. these are certainly equally text based as they are visual. but this was the prettiest way to put his lore together, so I opted for being text heavy.
hopefully I caught all my typos... also praying I can one day take higher resolution pics of his songcord (that I wove entirely myself and is like 7 feet long and I'm so proud of it oh my gods) so I can upload it, in picture format, in higher quality.
Adie's outfits on each album/ep cover and where she is on them in my 5sos AU (pt 3):
"LIVESOS": once again she's in the top middle square, proudly holding up her keytar, clearly mid-song.
"Meet You There Tour Live Album": she's in the bottom middle square, with her head thrown back as the picture captures her hair flying behind her as it settles from a hair-flip, while playing her keytar.
"The Feeling Of Falling Upwards: Live From The Royal Albert Hall": obviously same pose as 5SOS5.
I figured I should actually introduce some of the inner workings of the pool since it's a big part of my life, and my character's lives :)
The pool is depicted as accurately as possible. This means there is specific terminology that Julie and Colin will use, there are specific locations within the pool, there is a whole procedure and training for lifeguards/swim instructors.
Below is a floorplan of the pool facility. Guarding positions are depicted by "G". The guard office is where guards go when they're not on rotation, and includes changerooms, office spaces, a bathroom, a small kitchen room, and many resources and supplies. The lap pool, is the large pool with a shallow end, deep end, diving board, and usually swim lanes. The wading pool is very shallow, at it's deepest part is about waist-high, and includes various water features. The hot tub is the smallest pool. There is also a water slide, which ends is a smaller pool that's about shoulder deep.
The details worth knowing:
A guard typically only guards from one spot for 15 minutes before moving the next location (called rotations)
Prevention of injury is their goal, but they are prepared to rescue/help whenever necessary
Ratios of patrons:guards is very important
All staff must always be wearing a whistle
Communication while guarding happens mostly by whistle and by hand signals (unfortunately not ASL though)
Guards are trained for a lot of situations, but they always hope they don’t have to use it
There are lots of different programs at the pool, from Aquafit classes (often older women), to public swims (basically a free for all in the water), instructor guided lessons, and swim team practices
There’s a lot of behind the scenes stuff that goes into guarding and teaching lessons, especially for supervisors (things like pool chemical tests, equipment checks, paperwork)
Guards are also legally required to respond to situations that arise in the facility, and can be legally held accountable if they miss something, do not respond in a timely manner, or do not respond in the manner they were trained (negligibility)
Because the pool is open year-round, it’s divided into 5 sessions, each session the schedule is rearranged, and new lessons are assigned
The pools that I have been to have organized schedules primarily by people’s availability, meaning each session they can change drastically. At my fictional pool this is impossible to keep track of. So here’s how my pool works:
People are designated to a Guard Team, which are assigned to either Morning, Afternoon, or Evenings, of different days
This means you are almost always working with the same people
Because of how things are scheduled, you could be working at pretty much all hours of the day… Colin’s shift could start at 6:00am, or it could end at 10:00pm
The main guard team that we will see is:
Colin
Julie
Kai
Melissa
Abbie
Madelyn
Patrick
Marie
Some other names might come up, and the only main characters here are Colin and Julie, but I know Mel and Kai have shown up a couple times already.
When Jayden goes to the pool, he does self-regulated lane swims, and when Alix goes to the pool, he either does lane swims, or coached swim team practices. It’s a community swim team, so not affiliated with the university or anything, and it’s fairly competitive.
