Ship: Zombie!Ruby/Leon

Description: Leon sucks at puzzles so much even his zombie stalker decided to be chill for once and just see what happens, out of curiosity.

Tags: Canon/OC. Human/Zombie. Ruby is basically Mr X. Manic Pixie Nightmare. Possible OOC Leon.

TW: RE typical gore. RE typical stalking. Soft Necrophilia (Zombie). Suicidal thoughts but in a…Ruby way. The stupidest puzzle you have ever read.

Having these games and puzzles in these places was always a bit of a confusing concept to Leon. So many intricate mechanisms for things that could just have a…lock. It honestly sometimes feels as if someone is watching him through some hidden cameras and just wants to see him suffer through these veiled tasks. This was one of those tasks.

It seemed like he needed to insert the right gem into a slot in the wall, in order to open a door. He was able to find gems around the area, so that part was over. Now the problem was…he didn’t know which one to use. The only clue he had was a piece of paper that was as vague as words on paper could be. 

“The colors of fear and desire Her dream is his nightmare”

To say that these sentences mean absolutely nothing to him is putting it lightly. He looked around, nearly turned the whole office upside down trying to find something else but no…this the only clue he had.

As Leon suddenly hears loud breathing near his ear, he looks back to see…Ruby. God, she always sounded out of breath. He’s not sure if he should be creeped out or flattered at this point.

This monster was following him right as he entered the building. She seemed more aware than most but also more dangerous because of it. No sane person would choose this life willingly, but she decided that being controlled by immediate desires is better than…whatever she did before. She saw liberation in rotting and there are not a lot of things that can stop someone with nothing to lose.

This is the first time he was so close to her without being attacked. Ruby was genuinely curious about what he was doing, to the point of ignoring him as a target. Even when he looked back at her, she didn’t try to bite, just waited for his next move.

- Um…hi.

He said, a bit awkwardly, getting a rotten, sharp smile in return.

Leon still wasn’t sure if she would stay like this or suddenly lunge at him, but he couldn’t really do anything for now…only wait and see. Leon looked at the note in his hand again but reading suddenly became a bit harder, as he felt her get closer, bending down, trying to read it too. Her eyes darted around but it seemed like they weren’t really focusing on the words, as if she’s acting like she reads to fit in.

- Can you even read?

Leon asked in a slightly mocking tone. She shook her head which pushed a chuckle out of him. The unreadable scribbles on paper bored her pretty quickly and she approached the office table next to him to jump on it and sit down. 

He would still glance at her from time to time, making sure that she’s sitting in one place. Everytime she moved he would watch her closely only to see her do something dumb instead of attacking him. 

In the span of 10 minutes she managed to:

1) Start beef with the vending machine

As he was looking at the door, she suddenly came over and poked him in the shoulder. Leon shuddered but gave her the attention she was asking for.

- What?

Ruby points at the vending machine standing in the office and Leon doesn’t get what she wants to say until she makes the “money” motion with her fingers.

- I doubt it works

The machine had an obvious indent and the lights weren’t even working but it didn’t stop Ruby, as she let out a growl. Fearing for his life, Leon pulled out a coin out of his wallet and passed it to her.

He was right, the machine didn’t work. The coin just fell into the slot, without giving anything in return. Ruby was less than happy as she started shaking the thing, making Leon watch her again as there’s no way he’s getting anything done with all this noise.

2) Do circles on a chair with wheels that then fell over.

Leon tries to hold in a laugh as he sees Ruby smack her face against the floor.

- You alright?

He asked, mostly out of habit. He doubts that something so minor will have lasting damage on the already rotting body. She shows him the okay sign.

3) Hide a gem and watch Leon try to find it.

It ended up being on the highest shelf, of course.

- Don’t do this to me.

Leon sighs, dreading the moment he will have to stand on a chair to reach it. Ruby doesn’t say anything, only smiling in return.

4) Stand WAY TOO CLOSE.

The more ridiculous things she did, the more he became accustomed to her presence. Leon even got comfortable enough to sit down by the table and start writing down his own notes as he analyzed the clue and thought about where he found each gem. Ruby couldn’t stay in place for long but she would sit on the table he was working on to watch the man…in between doing dumb shit.

As she layed on the table and Leon glanced at her once again, something suddenly clicked.

- Wait…Is this about you?

He realized, looking up at her. Ruby sat up straight, with a widened eye, she was as surprised as he was. Leon got up and grabbed her face as she growled in response, trying to slightly move away but also not fighting it full on. 

- I need to see something.

She sat still with a confused look as he analyzed her eyes. He slightly opened her eyelids with his fingers, as her left eye was permanently squinting. Behind the rainbow glint of spilled oil he could see the blue sky peaking through. 

He picked up the shattuckite gem, the one that reminded of the ocean mixed with oil. As he puts it in place, he hears a click but…nothing happens. 

- Is it stuck?

Leon whispers to himself and approaches the door. He pulled on the handle, but nothing happened. He decided to try and push it with his shoulder, hoping that this will somehow trigger the mechanism to work.

Ruby silently watched him but then noticed that there’s another slot that Leon didn’t see. She approached the gems laid out on the table and glanced at him once again, trying to notice a glint of color in his detriment squint. She took the blue beryl in her hand and twisted it around, watching it glint under the ceiling lights. Ruby placed this gem into the slot, which triggered the door to open right away, causing Leon to fall onto the other side. 

As he started to get up, he looked back to see Ruby just…standing there, in the entrance, watching him. He could see, no, feel, her eyes change. She was watching him like a hunter, ready to pounce at any second. Just being under her for a brief moment evoked something. As Leon heard her neck crack, he knew the chase was on.

What faction is your OC? Do they conform to a group or are they independent?

She's basically independent and just hangs out with however will approach her. She doesn't seem to be aware of the faction system as a whole and every kindred is the same for her. Because of her personality she tends to hang out with Sabbat the most though.

When was their embrace?

Somewhere around 2004, so basically the same as the vtmb protagonist.

What happened that lead up to their embrace?

TW: overdose, drugging

It happened in the abandoned building that her friend group turned into a hang-out spot. It was supposedly abandoned, but Ruby would often hear weird sounds and have the feeling of someone watching her. Others, of course, didn't take her words seriously as she was always known as the "psychotic" one.

They would often have parties at this place and this night didn't start that differently but then Ruby's drink suddenly started to taste different and the next thing she knows, she's loosing her grip on reality.

After her laying on the floor for a while, her group, believing that she's dead, absolutely freaked out. They didn't want to be suspected of a murder so they locked her body in the bathroom. The stalking shadow that was occupying the building for a while, saw the thin, pale body laying on the cold, cracked marble floor. Such an embodiment of chaos couldn't leave so soon, so she woke up. It was a massacre, that nobody will ever care about or remember.

How did they initially feel after being embraced?

She was confused because my girl has one braincell but started to absolutely love it in the end. She loves stalking in the night, being an unapologetic little freak and eating rats :3

Detail your OC’s backstory!

You already know most of it, because I didn't make any changes from her canon backstory. But I'll write it here for those who aren't aware!

TW: drug use, organ trade

Ruby was growing up in a poor neighborhood with a single mother, who was often either gone or high, so Ruby ended up being raised by the neighbors and store clerks.  When she was 5, she got kidnapped when her mom left her unattended in a mall. She ended up in an organ trade but the buyer opted out and the group was forced to move with this child still in their possession, as letting go of her would be a waste of effort and money, also a slight possibility that she might snitch. The hope was that they would find another buyer, but they started raising her involuntarily as she was constantly with the gang and they had to keep Ruby alive at least.  Having hopes and dreams became more and more painful…so she stopped. That’s where her dissociation began. As she saw bodies being pulled apart and discarded she started having less and less regard for the human body, not only others but her own. Physical pain stopped having any meaning. Ruby was just a spectator at first but as she got older, she started to take part in the actual surgical procedures and looking after the victims that were waiting for their turn. There was no world outside of this bubble for her, she never went outside. She would only briefly see the sunlight from the van window as they moved. The need for connection would actively try to fight the situation she’s in, having her befriend the victims that she would have to see cut open the next day, despite which she still considered them genuine friends. When she turned 16, she was rescued by a police raid and was put into the foster system as her mother was deemed unequipped to care for her. Ruby jumped from one family to another for a while, as she was hard to manage, but found a constant home after all. The new parents weren't able to control a kid that has spent her most formative years in an organ trade and she stopped going to school pretty early on. Ruby got involved in a gang…although, calling it a gang would be giving them too much credit. In reality, this was just a group of rowdy teenagers without supervision, mostly doing drug trade and theft. They all skipped graduation, prom, they just disappeared one day and began to live their own life.

POV: You left the safe-space

The weekly mailman drives by, inserting a white, gold crested envelope with letters spelling ‘RUBY’ in the mailbox, and carries on with his drive.

You go to open the mailbox and immediately open it. When you do, it’s very pretty and even has a familiar handwritten note in marker..

This delivery the mailman will remember for a while. As he was about to place the envelope he heard growling and next thing he knows, there’s a girl chasing him absolutely unprovoked. The invitation fell on the ground as he ran.

Ruby wasn’t able to catch up to him as he got on his bike and drove off, making her come back home empty-handed. She probably wouldn’t even have noticed the envelope he dropped if it wasn’t for the shiny parts that she just HAD to have.

Ruby bit a part of the invitation but it didn’t turn out to be really tasty, to her disappointment. She finally looked at it properly and saw…words. She knew these were words but she couldn’t exactly read what they were saying. Ruby voiced out a couple of letters she did recognize but the word just didn’t register. At least she knew one person that could probably read!

Ruby runs back into the palace, ignoring every other bodyguard that is looking at her confused as to why she’s in a hurry and who she's looking for. 

After smelling multiple rooms and hallways, she finally found @lost-admiration and just handed him the invitation, without any context as to where she even was or why she’s out of breath.

- Read, please!

Ruby requested, presenting him with a letter that now said “rin antino” instead of “Orin & Santino” due to the piece she bit off. 

She never used “please” before joining Vincent. While trying to make her at least slightly fit in they were able to teach her to say “please” but the meaning of this word still didn’t exactly stick in the way it’s supposed to. She just interpreted it as “If I say please people will do anything for me” so now she just spams the thing.
